It must have been a lie because no one saw any scratches. He probably said it to wind the relatives up.

I read somewhere that at least two people saw scratches on his hands, but maybe they were wrong — who knows?

Maybe Jeremy planted the seed in their heads if he didn’t have any scratches, knowing if they told the police they’d seen scratches on his hands he could turn round and say “Look, ive no scratches at all! They’re trying to stitch me up”

He thought he was clever, but I’ve never thought he was bright at all. Sly, yes. Cunning too.  But he doesn’t have the intelligence to fool people like he think he does.
