There are a few reasons why the door could have been left in a 45° position. What is important is that the door had reportedly been moved & without knowing who moved it or why, any attempt at analysing its exact position when Kate arrived at 5A is pointless imo.

I can see no reason for the door to be left at 45 degrees.
Either almost closed (Gerry's famous 5 degrees), or wider so that someone could pass unimpeded.

It implies a nonchalant pull or push of the door IMO.

Can't you say it without referring to a theory?

My theory will be proved so take a good look.

Just noticed this totally uninformed post by Mistaken

Chew on... this would give you lock jaw...

Summary: Matt is first to have what can be described as a physical check [ He saw the twins in their cots] He claims the door was open appx 45/500 he claims the room was lit enough to see the twins.
Gerry  after a chat with someone, was the second person to have a physical check [his beautiful daughter moment], He claims the door was open appx 45/500 he claims the room was very dark...
Kate The  third person to have a physical check only noticed the door was open- appx 600when she was about to leave but paused as the door had been moved since she last closed it over when she left for Dinner. upon closing the door midway it slammed shut, then she noticed  as she opened the door  the shutters open-window open and curtains blowing she looked at Madeliens bed and had to take a second look to see she was missing from it.

So who opened the door to 45/50 degrees? and at what time was this done? If the room was light enough for Matt to see the cots and twins why couldn't Gerry see anything in darkness? but saw his daughter? why could Kate not see Maddie's bed  clearly- because Gerry saw her?

None of this makes any sense!

The order is not how you have placed it.

Gerry did first interior check at about 9.05
Matt did second interior check at about 9.25- 9.30
Kate did third interior check at about 10pm.

I love the way these supporters have an inexhaustible supply of time in which to pontificate but seemimgly no time or ability to do a simple bit of trig...... *%87
Amazing.
Then of course the bit with the door is "how"

You are working on the premise that an adult entered Madeleine's room & lifted her from her bed. Madeleine could have left the room of her own accord, never to return, after being disturbed by the sound of someone opening the window. The door did not need to be wide open for a child to easily exit the room.

That seems to be good logic - half open suggests a kid rather than an adult.

So how do you explain the door being opened to this 45 degrees twice?

Madeleine went to the bathroom.

However, that scenrio does not follow my line of thinking.

And one person's half open may not be exactly as the others,  so if a kid goes to the toilet the door could be moved twice, once on the way out and then again on the way in. What Matt saw maybe different angle to what Kate saw, we'll never know. all in my opinion based on logic.

Let's get real here. All checkers came in the same way and used the same route towards that door which would mean they all saw the door from the same angle. There would not be much variation at all.

I'm talking about persons moving the door, not the path toward the door.  If a child goes to the toilet the door could be moved twice.  You would have to agree surely?

Yep, but does that work in this situation with people checking?   .... dont think so, unless she visited the loo a second time (after Gerry left and in the minutes before Matt looked in.)

Gerry and Matt saw the door half-open from the same angle because they followed the same route towards the door.

9 check
He followed the normal route up to the rear door, which being open he only had to move [slide] it, that being the way in which he entered [was entering] the lounge, he noted that the children's bedroom door was not ajar as he had left it but half-way open, which he thought strange.

9:30 check
The door was closed but not locked as Kate McCann had said it would be. That he did not enter the bedroom where MBM and the twins were sleeping. He recalls that the bedroom door was half open. http://www.mccannpjfiles.co.uk/PJ/MATTHEW-OLDFIELD-10MAY.htm

The kid going to the toilet and the checking are independent of each other.
so the check could be before going to the toilet, the kid on the toilet (unnoticed), or the kid back in bed after going to the toilet.  One check could see one of 3 different door positions.  Ajar, position 1 or position 2
Note: "position 1 and  position 2 could be identical,  but we are  assuming kids under 4 will not return the door to the ajar position on their own.
It would be unwise to assume the child has returned to her bed when the door is found in a position more open than it should be.
All the above IMO.
