Opposite direction to what?

The direction in which the child's feet were facing.

If the person who picked her up out of bed had carried her off then the feet would have been on the other side, away from Jane Tanner.

Back to Madeleine being picked up from her bed and being handed to someone else, which would account for the child Jane Tanner saw being carried having her feet facing in the opposite direction.
This could have occurred if Madeleine was handed through the window.
Would that someone else   be  the man  allegedly seen by the Smith family  DCI Redwood  was concentrating on?  Oops no ,  different man.   Or perhaps it was like a game of relay where they passed a child between them here  and there .

This is my post that you replyed to -   It could have been opened to send the message 'I didn't have a key'   or to pass Madeleine to another person outside,  or a precaution in case someone came into the bedroom when the intruder was there,  he could make his/her getaway through the window.

I can see know how our posts got misunderstood.

I apoligise Snowgirl,   what I  SHOULD have said was he/she could make a getaway through the window,  leaving Madeleine in the bedroom.   As that is was I meant.
Apology understood and accepted   Lace.
But why would an intruder go out  through the bedroom window leaving Madeleine in the bedroom?

I give it as one of the reasons for the window being opened.   If the person was caught in the act of trying to abduct Madeleine by someone coming into the apartment,  he/she could make an hasty departure through the window.

If the person who picked her up out of bed had carried her off then the feet would have been on the other side, away from Jane Tanner.

So do you rule out an accomplice, for if she had been passed through a window, she could have ended up either way round.
NOTE do not take this as an indication that I buy into any abduction theory at all  ?{)(**

But there were only one set of fingerprints  found on the window, those of Kate McCann  ?

I believe police determined that nobody entered or exited by the window.

Didn't Kate herself think the open window could have been a red herring.

IMO as a theory, it is a non starter. You are suggesting that a couple’s child dies and their first thought is, “must get another one, oh look there is a girl of a similar age.” It’s only saving grace from some quarters is that it means Madeleine is still alive, discounting the fact that it would mean another child died.
"You are suggesting that a couple’s child dies and their first thought is, “must get another one, oh look there is a girl of a similar age.”"
I know for certain that I have never thought that or even expressed in writing a closely worded statement like that.
You might think that I might be suggesting that but that is untrue, I'm not.

If he was a burglar why would he want to take a kid?
