A lot of bullying does go on in the police force which surprised me too initially.  It's not a job for weak people or those with thin skins.  The armed forces are the same too, probably the nature of the beast.

I saw no sectarian problems in the Army, just one deserter who went off to join the IRA.

Really?  I bet that caused a bit of a kerfuffle.  Actually, I nearly laughed, although I don't suppose it was very funny

I was gobsmacked. He was our next door neighbour and left his wife and kids when he took off. She said the IRA paid better!

I bet they did.  That's even more funny.  Sorry, weird sense of humour.

Dirty money always in abundance. I thought the IRA political wing was 'sorted' I belive they still have a  armed unit or 5 for the gangsta wing. To protect their 'interests' and their interests' isn't freedom of speech,or sexual equality, better education...

I find it quite laughable that sectarianism is a reason not to believe the McCanns. Many others with different religions and no religion ccan't stand them either.. Also, it should be noted that many  'celtic fans' join in  as well.

The supporters are emotionally attached to the McCanns going by their emotive language they use- they have no argument to offer, because they were not there- but are happy to second guess what they would have done  or even what they were thinking during their 'grieving' process. They have to understand that many people just do not like them. They don't even need to give a reason for their opinion.

They gave them real bullets too, I expect. It wasn't often that the British Army handed out live ammo in those days. .

They handed out a fair few on that bloody Sunday in 1972.

When ammunition was issued it was planned and every round was recorded. I don't suppose the IRA had the same procedures

Is this a good time to admit that I had some sympathy for The IRA?

I can also understand the rise of the IRA, particularly after the British Army seemed to be there to support those who had consistently deprived a significant proportion of the population of their rights. Now they're dictating the terms of the whole of the UK's withdrawal from the EU, it seems.

That’s what happens when you use a bunch of quasi-terrorists to prop up your government.

I never did feel English.  Too much diversity in my family background, largely Irish, probably Catholic.

Thanks for an honest opinion.  It still upsets me to think of what was done to Irish Catholics.
