So he turns up for innocent reasons only to find Kate in a complete state having just discovered Madeleine dead and helps her cover it up?  Before Gerry has returned?

Maybe neither of them know yet, hypothetically speaking. She’s got out of the shower to answer the door... He doesn’t go in the apartment and is only there for 30 seconds. I’m open to any other suggestions but it would be good to look at what all the tennis players have to say.

In that scenario the body still has to be hidden in the apartment till cadaver odour builds up.   Where would it be put?

Eddie’s alert suggests it may be the cupboard. Grime has a different explanation for the cadaver odour there.

But he says he saw Madeleine alive so either she was, or he’s lying and covering up, which is it in your view?

Why put it in the cupboard?  Why not tucked up in bed if you are planning on leaving the apartment unlocked and with the possibility that one of your mates might do a check and discover her missing instead?

" Madeleine's err, you know, was a very bright child.

She was very bright, you could have a lot of fun with Madeleine err and you know she, she was, you know Kate and Gerry's, you know pride and joy. They'd had a lot of trouble conceiving, you know with IVF and everything and you know Madeleine was their miracle. She was obviously very unique with the fact that she'd got the, you know the iris defect err but you know she was certainly a happy go lucky child you know she was, she would interact with the other children very well.

Smithman carrying a child in his arms checked his watch after passing the Smith family and the time was 10:03. Both are still unidentified 10 years later.

KM says something totally different. There’s no way of knowing without another witness.

For all we know the checks might not normally have involved going inside.

I suggest at each step look at all the possibilities developing multiple theories and see which one works in the end.
At the moment no one likes to make a decision as to the next step.  So don't make a decision but just think of all the possible next steps, and the next steps after those next steps and so on.

Let’s go with Grime’s explanation of the cadaver odour being there instead.

Grime never said there was cadaver odour in the cupboard

What was his explanation then?

He explains it on the extended video of the dog searches.  He seems to think cadaver odour is concentrated by air currents, that IMO will only happen if cadaver odour is contained in particulate matter, which is possible but then it would be susceptible to removal by vacuum cleaning of the apartment.

So no corpse in the cupboard.  Where was it when the McCanns were letting their friends go and check on the unlocked apartment?
