VRD dogs role is to look for remains. Looking at Grime's white paper in 2005 it looks like he decided to change the rules and make the alerts significant.

Perhaps one should be thankful that he bogged off to America.  The Americans will believe anything if it suits them.

It is totally unacceptable in the 21st century that a dog handler is in a position to voice opinions without the support of say an analytical chemist/ forensic scientist.
Just my opinion of course but Jeremy Bamber is innocent and a couple from UK, unknown to T9, abducted Madeleine McCann - motive unknown.  Was J J murdered as a result of identifying as a goth?

Why?  You voice an opinion, why shouldn't he?
I believe everything. And l believe nothing.
I suspect everyone. And l suspect no one.
I gather the facts, examine the clues... and before   you know it, the case is solved!"

The officer in charge of the Needham case voiced his opinion that Ben died in an accident, this is with out any support from any analytical chemist/forensics.Should he have kept quiet.
As an aside there are many sides to analytical chemistry my daughter is a Doctor in such.

Big difference is that my opinions on here mean squat;  I have zero influence unlike Grime who altered the course of the investigation.

As you said he was an officer and his opinion was just that.  Grime was called in as an 'expert' and altered the course of the investigation.

Yes there are many sides to analytical chemistry but it requires this level of expertise to put the dog alerts into context.

Many years on,its still not been established what happened so was his "influence" misguided?

Which is why Grime said did he not that the alerts would need corroborating.

Yes in that the tabloids overplayed the meaning.

The officer in charge obviously altered the course of the Needham search, its no longer ongoing,so opinions count for a lot in police roles.

His reports are ambiguous and open to interpretation.  They are not written to the standard expected of a properly qualified and accredited forensic scientist.  The dog alerts are akin to the witches dunking stool!  And no doubt some here would like to see me on one  8)><(
