When you say you would bet then that indicates a degree of certainty... I don't see how you can make that call with no evidence

I don't support either of them... The six were a very long time ago and subsequently changes were brought in to prevent that happening again. Now you are quoting individual cases

Portugal does not feature so perhaps they don't have any.

You only have to Google MET and corruption to turn up numerous hits.  It's the idea that its some elite force to be reckoned with that I don't buy into.

Just my opinion of course but Jeremy Bamber is innocent and a couple from UK, unknown to T9, abducted Madeleine McCann - motive unknown.  Was J J murdered as a result of identifying as a goth?

The tread title is has SY met expectations. You have gone from corruption in the MET to miscarriage of justice in the UK judicial system... Not really on topic.

We've had this discussion before re Portugal. Is it a perfect system with no miscarriages or does it not admit to them.

I still have seen no evidence to support your belief that the PJ have a superior disciplinary record. Something you believe strongly enough to bet on it

As Einstein said everything is relative... Are SY an elite force... You would have to compare them to other police forces

No not wild given the MET's long history of corruption, incompetence, upheld complaints/disciplinary hearings and wrongdoing.  The PJ would have to be pretty bad to exceed this but I don't have all the fact and figures that's why I said I wouldn't mind betting.

Do you have the facts and figures to hand?
Are you claiming that the PJ are less corrupt than the Met?

According to this report miscarriages of justice in Portugal cost the state 20 million euros a year

What do you think about the recent case in portugal where a man beat his wife with a stick with a nail in it.
The judge ruled that as the wife had committed adultery the Bible said the punishment was reasonable as the man's honour had been insulted

The the recent case where a man was found guilty of a violent rape of a UK hitchhiker... He received a suspended sentence and laughed at her as he left court

Then there was the case of the woman found axed to death that the courts decided had committed suicide.

No cite can be supplied, purely my opinion but if I was to be accused of a crime whether guilty or innocent, I would certainly prefer to be in the British judicial system than the Portuguese judicial system.

You will need to clarify that Erngath as the UK has three different justice systems, one of which differs significantly from the other two.

It seems to me its greatest achievement to date has been to pretty much rule out 'Tannerman' as Dr Totman?

What else has been accomplished?

I don't think they have as Doc Totman was walking in the wrong direction if he was arriving back from the night crèche.

And Gerry and Jez claim to have not seen Jane nor Totman so go figure.
Smithman carrying a child in his arms checked his watch after passing the Smith family and the time was 10:03. Both are still unidentified 10 years later.

Maybe they saw Julian Totman but not the man walking in the direction Jane said.
