There was clearly information around which came from within the investigation. Who gave out that information isn't known. It could be members of the PJ or people working with them. There were civilian interpreters, translators and relatives. There were people working for the Prosecutors and the Judges. There were forensic people in Portugal and the UK, and UK policemen in both countries. In my opinion laying the blame for every leak on the PJ is a sign of a mind which is not just closed, but biased also.

Who has said EVERY leak came from the PJ?  Just a handful is enough to prove that they leak, and are still doing so if the recent interview with Amaral about the German paedo is anything to go by.

There is I believe a very strict Portuguese law regarding secrecy for everyone involved in a police investigation ... on one occasion I believe it necessitated the speedy return to Portugal of the case coordinator Rebelo, from England where he was on Madeleine's business to sort out a particularly blatant and damaging violation of that law when information was leaked to the press from the PJ.

Are Police officers in Portugal exempt from breaking the law?  Seems so because it kept on happening and no-one was prosecuted for it.  Or are they just not terribly adept at detaining the real criminals if they have a convenient patsy available to prosecute using the Portuguese press as their due process?  Probably saved a lot of bother ... but in this instance they overstepped their mark I think.
