I think anyone in the UK who criticises the Portuguese press is ignoring the fact that the press in the UK is (imo) a national disgrace. If anyone has used Madeleine McCann as a cash cow it's the UK media.
Telling it as it is hardly equates with criticising either the Portuguese press or news media and or the business moguls who own it.
If there is a market for it who can blame multi media conglomerates for supplying it both at home in Portugal and throughout the rest of the Portuguese speaking former empire (and no ... I mention - but am not criticising empires ... Britain too used to have one ... and bless! most empires I know of had agendas of expansion as well as absolute emperors at their head).
Perhaps the ever expanding Cofina fits somewhere into that but who knows or perhaps more importantly who cares? If lies are the currency and people who know they are lies are content with that so be it. Apparently Aeschylus summed it up well ...
I think there is also a saying about getting the press one deserves. But media purporting to be a news channel which replaces fact with - for example - the fiction that Eddie and Keela were introduced into the equation only after Kate and Gerry had left Portugal just cannot be taken seriously ... or maybe the thought should be "can it?"
