How Sheila Caffell nee Bamber died
« on: May 31, 2020, 01:37:34 AM »
I have been looking at a series of photos on the blue forum (you might have to be a member to view them, http://jeremybamberforum.co.uk) and I've nearly come to a conclusion about the death of Sheila Caffell.

Looking at search function here on this red forum (miscarriageofjustice.co) on the Bamber board there were 13 posts that had mention Sheila being paralysed from the first bullet she took to the upper neck.

One could possibly imagine she was conscious, still able to speak but entirely unable to move.  Looking at the blood flow lines there is no evidence of movement IMO.  The lines do not change direction other than what is expected for blood flowing over a curved surface.

So I have made up my mind that there is no way Sheila could hold the rifle to shoot herself the second time.
IMO someone else took pity on her and shot her through the brain and killed her.  Leaving the rifle on her lap making it look like a suicide.

IMO the first shot was suicidal but it wasn't fatal.   She bleeds from the first wound for some time as the blood pools in her right armpit area.
I would say she standing when she took the first bullet.  The blood on the right fell onto her arm when it was directly under the wound momentarily.

There was an encrypted suicide note left by Sheila which also points to her suicidal intentions.

Only one entry seems to be talking about June Bamber otherwise the remainder seem on the initial view to be referring to Sheila.

So there seems a high degree of consensus that the first shot paralysed her.

From that list the first result actually comes from Ispywithmybigeye (Ispy)

Ispy makes some very good points as to why Sheila didn't kill everyone.

I'd say you'd have to give Ispy top marks for this post:

"You see, after removing a silencer you then have to screw the protector back onto the rifle’s barrel. And the rifle found laying on Sheila’s lap had the protector on its barrel.

That means:

Sheila would’ve had to have shot herself in her neck the one time, with the silencer attached

That shot didn’t kill her, though. So, according to your imagination instead of her unscrewing the silencer and tossing it on the floor, then shooting herself yet again in the neck, she decided to stumble downstairs pouring with blood, half paralysed, dazed, dizzy, shocked, and psychotic.

Almost near collapse due to loss of blood — yet miraculously not one drop of blood fell down onto her nightdress, body, legs, feet, carpet — she went to the kitchen and gave the silencer a rinse under the tap and meticulously made sure no blood was left in the sink; she then walked across Nevill’s blood, sugar and glass; went to the cupboard, bent down without any blood dripping from her neck, throat, nose or mouth, placed the silencer in a box at the very back of the cupboard, and closed the box.

She THEN, in her psychotic state, decided to find the barrel protector she’d removed, managed to find it amongst all the mess and upheaval, but still in her frenzy as she struggled to breathe due to the pressure of blood ballooning in her neck and throat,  she caught sight of it, screwed it back on, and walked upstairs without leaving a single footprint...

She then walked into the master bedroom, avoided stepping on June’s blood, laid down at an angle, pressed her bloodied handprint inside the Bible, closed it, opened it again — and then shot herself a second time.

Besides all the obvious, you tell everyone WHY Sheila not only removed the silencer and put it in the cupboard  — for NO reason whatsoever — and THEN, still in her psychotic state decided to hunt for that small barrel protector which must have been uppermost in her mind (wouldn’t it yours after having blown your two sons brains out; your father’s and your mother’s), and then screw that terribly important protector back on the barrel?

What would have made that barrel protector more important to her than anything else?"

Not many places talk about the barrel protector so I'll have to research that as well later.

A post by Brietta.  I get the sense she really believes Jeremy Bamber did it.

"We will never know what went on that night.  I'm not sure if initially his victims knew who he was (wet suit ~ face covering) although I am certain he would have made sure they knew exactly who he was when he was in control of the situation.

Sheila might have been disturbed only when the noise from the kitchen reached her or she might have slept through it but she must have been paralysed by terror when he made her sit for the first bullet to her throat.

Maybe he did make her write the entry in her diary ... I think he might have found that amusing."

"paralysed by terror" is not quite the meaning of paralysed I was looking for.

A post by Ispy.

......snip the first bit.....
"It’s almost amusing how you say you like to quote from sources rather than give an opinion, when most of your sourced “facts” are wrong, and you’re constantly giving opinions — all of which are smashed to smithereens.

What’s more, there’d be no point to a discussion board if we could only quote established facts.

To see how good you are at forming opinions, perhaps you’d answer this: how do you think Sheila managed to:

A) Shoot herself with a rifle where she couldn’t reach the trigger

B) After the first shot blood poured furiously into her neck and out of her mouth: how did she manage to walk downstairs, put the silencer in a cupboard, walk upstairs again, without any of her blood spilling onto the front of her nightdress?

C) How did she manage to walk when she was possibly partially paralysed due to the bullet fracturing part of her spine?"

Once again great questions.

OK another by Ispy

"Yes, the defence very quickly dropped the Bible attempt...when they realised it brought into question how Sheila could have shot herself in the throat, causing massive blood loss to collect in her throat and neck (as seen by the swelling in the photographs), been semi-conscious, gurgling for breath, partially paralysed as her upper spine had been shattered by the bullet — then somehow picked the Bible up, opened it, deliberately put her hand in the pool of blood that had escaped from her neck into a pool beside her, then pressed her hand hard inside the Bible, closed it, opened it again and put it down next to her when she was supposedly holding the long rifle in her right hand and her left arm was twisted backwards towards her head...them somehow managed to shoot herself a second time.

No wonder the defence quickly shut up about THAT!

Jeremy hadn’t anticipated when he pressed Sheila’s hand onto the Bible then closed it, that it would make an identical handprint on the opposite page! What an idiot! Besides being an evil psychopath and mass murderer, he’s also thick."

I'll have to look into the handprint as well.

Another post by Ispy
"What WOULD be unique if it had of been Sheila who’d murdered her family

She’d have been the first and only female in all history to have shot dead her mother, father, two sons and then herself

She’d also have been the first female in UK history to have shot herself dead, not once, but TWICE

She’d have gone down in history as having been the first person to have shot herself in the throat despite being unable to pull the trigger as her fingers couldn’t reach, and then shoot herself a SECOND time when she was partially paralysed having fractured her spine where the bullet ended, and unable to breathe properly as her throat pumped up with blood effectively drowning her"

Maybe I don't fully agree with Ispy on this point after the first bullet but definitely after the second.

http://miscarriageofjustice.co/index.php?topic=11337.msg582444#msg582444  "Re: Sheila’s Nightdress"

Ispy again:
"You’d think she’d have thrown them on the floor — being in a psychotic rage and all that...

Your other very, very interesting point about why wouldn’t Sheila have shot herself in the mouth should be highlighted.

Studies prove that when people shoot themselves dead (it’s always men, usually, who kill themselves by gun), their most favoured method is shooting themselves in their mouth, and the second favourite is the temple.

Sheila could not possibly have pulled the trigger by aiming at her neck (BIG slip up for dim Jeremy), so if she’d really tried to kill herself she’d have found it easier to go for her mouth or temple.

Another thing: she bled profusely after the first shot which caused huge swelling to her neck. Are we supposed to believe she just lay there semi-conscious; touched the bullet wound with her right hand as blood spurted out and trailed down her forearm; then realising she wasn’t dead but in pain, shock, trembling and shaking, weak as a kitten and choking with blood, her head at an angle and partially paralysed, she managed to put her hand down again, fumble around for the rifle without seeing it, placed another bullet into the cartridge (all with just one hand), cock it, then aimed it at her neck again and pulled the trigger?
...snip ...."

What's the need for this did the gun have no magazine in it.?

For a change a post from John.

" snip ....
In addition, according to the pathologist, Sheila was stunned by the first shot to her neck. The bullet fragmented and left her effectively paralysed.  She was semi-conscious and could never have taken a second shot.  There was no blood smear on her neck, no blood on her fingers, no blood on the rifle trigger and no blood spatter caused by coughing up blood from her shattered throat.
.... snip ..."

OK on this point John and I agree.

A post from Goatboy
"When you consider who is guilty of a murder there are three things to consider. Means, motive and opportunity. Who had all of these things regarding the White House Farm murders? Sheila? If you take the view that she was having a psychotic episode then that takes the motive part out of it. Opportunity, well she was in the house. Means? She simply couldn't have fired the rifle so accurately and failed to hit the target only a few times, she couldn't have reloaded the rifle at least twice. She couldn't have battered Nevill senseless. She went on a killing spree including a life or death struggle with Nevill and showed little or no signs of this at all on her skin, hair, clothing etc. If this was to have worked she would need a steady supply of ammo. As far as I understand it she would have gone on the rampage in a flimsy nightie with no pockets. Finally she somehow managed to shoot herself through the neck twice, despite the fact that there is every indication that the first shot would probably have rendered her unconscious, and possibly even paralysed. Dr Vanezis's comment that the first shot wouldn't have been immediately fatal has been taken on the blue forum to mean she could have walked around and even run upstairs. This simply could not have happened. Despite what it said in the TV programme it's reasonably clear that Nevill was first shot upstairs. The fact he ended up downstairs was probably because he was trying to get to the phone, which was disabled either because the phone had been moved from his room without him knowing or  by taking the kitchen phone off the hook. Someone battered him senseless because he was trying to get to the phone. What would it have mattered to Sheila if he had made a call for help? When she was planning to kill herself anyway which she would have easily accomplished by the time the police would have arrived? So someone was willing to go to great lengths to stop Nevill getting to the phone to say what was really happening. And who would have had the motivation to do that?

Bamber on the other hand had motive (money), means (knew how to get to the farm quickly on a bike and how to get into the building without having to break in) and opportunity (at last everyone in his way of his inheritance just happened to be gathered together in the house at the same time). It seems quite obvious really when you think about it, doesn't it?"

Worth reading IMO.

From thread:  Re: Jeremy Bamber - Unluckiest person in the world? Post from Iggy

"He probably couldn't find the dog to shoot it that night and in any event the clock was ticking in his great master-plan.  Bamber knew that the dog saw what he had done that night and it probably got on his nerves.  he certainly didn't want that dog around.  Had he made any effort Crispy could have been re-homed but that wasn't good enough...she had to die!

The first shot wouldn't have killed her Outlook but it effectively paralysed her and most probably stunned her.  The second shot was needed to end her life, Bamber couldn't possibly take the risk that the paramedics or ambulancemen as they were in 1985 could revive her long enough to save her life.

Just had a thought on this. Was it necessary that Jeremy Bamber delay the police and first-aiders from gaining access to the farmhouse?  The longer he kept them out the safer it was for him surely?"

From thread  Re: Was Sheila shot with a rifle fitted with a silencer?
Post by John: http://miscarriageofjustice.co/index.php?topic=269.msg4576#msg4576

"It seems that Sheila could not have taken that first shot and she certainly didn't make the second one because she was effectively paralysed from the lacerations to her neck and spine where the bullet lodged.  She would have been in excruciating pain and blood would have splattered everywhere had she still been conscious.  It would also appear that the two shots were made within seconds of each other when her assailant panicked and realised she was not dead."

Ok I don't quite agree with all of that:
IMO Sheila could have taken the first shot.
IMO Sheila could not have taken second shot.
IMO there was a long period between the first and second shots, but no movement occurred. So it looks like time stood still.
