Is it possible to be nice to each other?
« on: April 15, 2013, 09:10:37 PM »
To have debate on here without the constant aggressiveness, personal accusations, bullying and general ad hominem attacks? Is it? People seemed to manage it on yesterday's debate on the chat between jez and gerry thread. Why is it not possible on most of the others? My personal opinion is that alot of people here need to go and read the forum rules, again and agan and again.

I understand that most posters come from a certain position and belief,Madeleine was abducted or Madeleine was not abducted and everyone is entitled to hold their opinions and beliefs without being attacked. NONE of us here know. Both possibilities are on the table IMO. The public prosecutor IIRC stated there is no evidence of any crime. There is nothing to prove either theory, that is why everyone is here.

Correct, posters like Luz should be reminded that posting such filthy abuse as she posts frequently to other posters should not be allowed.  It is against the rule to be disrespectful to other posters.

Posters such as Luz and Stephen25000 should also refrain from posting claims here without references and links to support those claims. That is also against the forum rules.

Real debate can only proceed when posters obey these rules and those posters are failing desperately to do so.

Another way that certain posters try to stifle debate is by deliberately introducing disruptive posts (as Meadow did on the 'Can members post safely?' thread with her totally off-topic post about paedophiles.

When you watch the behaviour of posters it becomes clear that some are not interested in genuine debate. They have no facts to offer, just speculation. And when that is challenged, they resort to game playing with abuse of other forum posters and with attempts like that of Meadow to divert threads.

Meadow tried to stop vain insults by inviting to reflect on an interesting point. This is called diversion and I thank her for that. I admire her shrewdness and came here only because somebody told me she could be the Meadow I missed.
Is it a default not to be neither pro nor anti ? Meadow doesn't judge, this is why she's so precious to me. I thank her to exist.

I applaud that stance.  Some posters are stronger than others in all sorts of ways and quiet often a timid poster feels intimidated to the point where they fear making actual posts.  That is not what we want guys.

Everyone should feel that they are welcome and indeed free to post whenever they want (in accordance with the rules) and won't be attacked for posting an alternative viewpoint.

Are we all reading from the same page now??
A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
Indeed, the truth never changes with the passage of time.

I think it would be great if everyone gave your opening post some thought  ...  and it would be  lovely if we could all just be  'nice'  to each other

I do not understand the personal attacks at all   8(8-))

John you have yourself accused people who do not agree with your views as having something missing from their lives and of talking bullshit.

If being  'nice'  to each other is a bridge too far  ...  and this thread suggests it is  ...  could we at least make an attempt at civility  ?

Is that beyond anyone here  ?

Gilet, your tone and content  of posting doesn't help dear. It is exactly the kind of thing I find quite vile.Goodnight.

How ironic that you appeal to others to be nice to one another and then almost immediately criticise another's posting style as "vile" and patronise them by calling them "dear".  Oh dear!  >@@(*&)

Like attracts like as some say. My Op was a question, Gilet decided to put the boot on immediately on other posters, thevery thing I was posting against, ask them the reason for their aggression.

If you interpret the factual posting which I made in the second post of this thread as abuse then that is where you are going wrong I am afraid. I was not abusive at all. I simply outlined the manner in which others had clearly posted abuse and broken forum rules.

I would never have suspected in the old times, when fora (a bit snobbish, I know) didn't exist, that somebody unknown could hurt you, or make you feel good, not having the slightest idea about neither how nor how much. Sometimes I imagine the person who insulted me on a forum is the one I leave my seat to in the tram or the one who picks up the purse I dropped inadvertently. Homo homini lupus. I feel like reading Bentham tonight.
