I think this is pivotal

If the BBC are to be believed, 2.5 million PST were in the coffers in May 07 for peeps to come forward with information that would lead to the safe return of Madeleine.

Where is that money now - had interest been accrued on this amount of money - where is that money now?

I am naive enough to believe that most people are decent and honest and would deliver relevant information to
'Team McCann' without hoping for a financial reward - but there are others who WOULD be prompted by financial incentive only.

So has the reward been pulled?
Has hope for the safe return of Madeleine been pulled?

I reckon this might be just the most relevant thread regarding Madeleine.

Where is that money now?  Probably still in the bank accounts of the various benefactors who pledged to pay out in the event of someone coming forward with information leading to Madeleine's discovery.

Are there any angles left in this case which people haven't exploited in their determination to criticise the McCanns?  >@@(*&)

It's a discussion forum - are you one of those posters who dictates what peeps talk about?

I think you are almost certainly right

From missingmadeleine 8)--))

Interestingly she did not help write the book as most of us have heard but she gave guidance with publishing, so seems she is still around the case.

A very generous woman, JK Rowling also gave 50K  to the Centre of Hope in the Philippines, part of the Visayan Forum Foundation - founded by former guerrilla turned human rights campaigner Cecilia Flores-Oebanda.

The charity have helped save up to 60,000 children and women from prostitution and exploitation.

Thank you missingmadeleine for that information

JK Rowling was living in Porto when the first abductee, Jorge, went missing in the Masserelos district of fairly central Porto.  Maybe that shocked her and inspired her wishes to help?  Something tells me that as such a generous woman, she would pay out, but no-one can be sure unless they actually know

I don't believe the Mccanns themselves offered any reward money - but apparently admin on here are asking the Mccanns to explain things.

Quite right that they don't get a reply - I suggest that if people are concerned about the rewards then they write to the people that made the offers and report back.

Incorrect: Gerry and the PJ endorsed the reward money:

It brings the total amount of money now being offered in the search to more than £2.5 million after another businessman offered £1 million earlier this week.

The new reward, which has been endorsed by the Portuguese police, was welcomed by Madeleine’s father Gerry McCann.

He said: “We are very happy and pleased with what you are doing
.

“Anything that can be done to publicise that Madeleine is missing and help with the search is very welcome.”

The News of the World, which announced the reward and itself pledged £250,000 to the fund, said it was the biggest reward ever offered in a newspaper.

That dates from less than two weeks after her disappearance...

ETA: in what way was amaraltheofficeboy's comment incorrect?

But registrar, that doesn't say that the Mccanns have control of the money.

If they don't, how foolish they would be if they confirmed the reward was still available ... and then the benefactor renagued.

In fact they might be liable to cough up themselves, which clearly they could not ..... as far as we are aware!

The question should be directed at the people who offered the rewards.

But of course a lot of people like to knock the Mccanns.

The £250k from the News of the World seems somewhat unlikely for a start...

It is very obvious that the reward which was offered for the safe return of Madeleine McCann and which was publicised in a blaze of publicity no longer exists.  What incentive is there for anyone with crucial information as to her whereabouts to come forward any more?  Do members think this is a backward step after 6 years or is there more to this than meets the eye?   8(0(* 8(0(*

for some reason some people use this to have yet another go at the Mccanns.

They never offered a reward.

Why should the McCanns not be asked ?

It's not an inpertinent question is it ?

It is not something private or confidential,  nor is it something they cannot be open about for legal or 'operational'  reasons

They could just  straightforwardly say whether there is a reward on offer or not

What is the problem with that  ?

We dont know if the Mccanns have control of the money.  Do we?

They could have been given advice (by lawyers and/ or by the police) not to highlight it (either the reward itself or the amount). NOTW can hardly stump up with £250k, can it?

None of us are in their situation and there are obviously going to be things that need to be kept quiet for one reason or another.
