Angelo seems to think the McCanns aren't really that serious about finding Madeleine.  This suggests to me that he believes they are malevolent characters, who don't really care about what happens to their children. Is this the case Angelo?

Perhaps he simply thinks they know what happened to her already.

Perhaps he could answer for himself?  His responses to other issues concerning this case seem to indicate that this is not so, but we shan't know for certain unless or until he tells us himself.

Martha do you never get tired of being so adversarial all the time ?

Don't get me wrong Martha I am sympathetic to the McCanns and what happened to them in 2007 but since then they have made some very bad decisions and engaged some sinister characters who have been exposed as charlatans and frauds in the end.  Again, I don't blame them for being taken in by these people but I do question their reasoning sometimes for a couple who are undoubtedly of above average intelligence.

My point or my gripe with them is simple.  Why if they are serious about finding Madeleine are they not doing ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING to find her??  And that includes offering a reward for her return?   You don't have to like the people you are dealing with but you have to deal with them all the same.  Somebody somewhere and most likely more than one person know what happened to Madeleine.  Unless you provide an incentive for these undesirables to come forward they will always remain in the shadows.

Angelo, you insult me, then expect me to answer your question when you don't even have the good grace to answer mine?  Forget it.

I always respond to posts when I can Martha.  I cannot help it if I have a job to do which doesn't always allow me to post.   Maybe you will do me the good grace and answer my question.  What offers of reward money are currently available to Kate and Gerry McCann because from where I am standing I cannot see any post Leveson and post NOTW??

There are many people with children or loved ones who are missing around the world.  Undoubtedly the vast majority are very serious about finding them and are doing all they can to find them, however many (if not most) will not be in a position to offer a reward.  Some, like in the case of Ben Needham, will have once had rewards attached but which have now lapsed.  This does not (or should not!) cast aspersions on those people with missing loved ones, but for some reason aspersions ARE being cast on the McCanns for this very reason.  I find that odd.  You DO seem to be suggesting by what you have written that the McCanns are not seriously interested in finding their daughter which, if I were them, I would find quite hurtful and offensive.

We have already established that the McCanns did not put up the reward money in the first place, nor do we know if the various reward amounts pledged are still on offer.  We have also established from expert guidelines published and linked to on this thread that rewards should not be open-ended, should be offered for a limited period and usually linked to a major publicity campaign and that even then they may not be met with the approval of the law enforcement agencies that have to deal with the resulting flood of information 99.9% of it usually from well-intentioned members of the public,  bounty seekers, time-wasters and scammers.

Offering a reward CAN result in valuable information coming forward but to suggest that without some sort of cash incentive this crime can never be solved is quite mistaken in my view.

The McCanns are in the unique position of not needing any benefactor to provide a reward but still choose to not offer one.  They are missing such a valuable opportunity because within the dross will be the genuine contact that they crave so much.  By not offering a reward they are effectively abandoning Madeleine to her fate assuming of course that she is still alive.

I note, nobody gives credit to Kate, for her fund raising for charity.

Missing people

Gerry also does charity fund raising.

Both could have added these funds to Madeleine's fund, I'm sure, but they didn't.

Angelo,

Aside from any conditions placed on rewards at the time (or even changing circumstances in any benefactor's ability to pay), there can be all kinds of reasons why they may have been advised to play down a reward (even if one still exists).

The police themselves may have advised them to play this down, not just for Madeleine, but also in the light of the Shannon Matthews case, for example.

I think the point you make is a common sense one

If someone out there  'knows something'  then it is almost certain that are not your regular honest, upright citizen

If the crucial information is to come from seedy lowlife, then so be it  ...  if it gets Madeleine back who cares if the method used was to  'buy'  information from someone who would not have helped unless there was money on offer

The McCanns have nothing to lose by offering a reward, given that it would only be paid in the event of Madeleine being found

Like you,  I do not understand why they have not used that opportunity

are people suggesting that the seedy lowlife people have only suddenly come upon relevant information and didn't have it years ago when the reward was publicised?

It possible I suppose but how likely?

See, there you go again, implying that the McCanns are calculating, heartless, uncaring parents.  Did it occur to you that the McCanns may have taken professional advice on this matter from people who do actually know what they are talking about and who don't see the offering of a reward as the simple solution to the case that you seem to see it as?

That's the problem you see.  The people they are talking to and taking advice from are a useless bunch.  One of them was responsible for an innocent man being imprisoned for years for the murder of Jill Dando yet remains in post.  That clown of a detective and a few others of the same ilk should have been booted out but no he and they are still there advising people like the McCanns and no doubt looking to stitch up the next poor sod with some sort of learning difficulty who is easily influenced.  Amaral must be laughing his socks off at them with their latest suspect list which in the end and £millions later will lead nowhere.

Maybe the McCanns are content to follow the official line and keep their heads down?  A little PR here, an odd interview there once in a while, an occasional fun run and not forgetting Kates patronage of a missing children organisation.  All great stuff but how exactly will any of this go any way to finding their daughter after 6 long years???

Agreed Ica.  I applaud their charity work but wtf...how is this helping to find their daughter??   If it was my daughter I would be out there in Portugal scouring every possible lead.  Tracking every source and following every snippet of information until I either get her or find her body.  What does Gerry McCann do?  Goes back to work in a f..king hospital and leaves the search to a bunch of incompetents who aren't even in Portugal becasue they aren't even welcome there!!!   What a f..king fiasco.

memories change as do attitudes over time.  Allegiances also change within criminal groups so now is the right time to put a reward out there are see what gets hooked.

That may seem easy from the outside...

The McCanns were there for months. Neither they, nor the PIs could have interviewed anyone who chose not to talk to them.

There was no point in them staying there with the hostile atmosphere once they'd been made arguidos - and there were the twins to consider.

If Gerry had not gone back to work, they'd have had to have lived off the fund. And he no doubt mentally he needed a constructive focus that gave him a breather for part of the day from the emotional trauma.

Once they got hold of the files, there was obviously a lot to check through, detail by detail.

I really don't see what staying on in PT would have achieved.
