we all have a cross to bear

not getting biblical on you guys

but I reckon we all have a hard-luck story to tell - if we choose to

whether that has place in an internet discussion about a missing child in Portugal - who knows

Personally, I think that these revelations are best kept private

just my take

Is that aimed at me registrar?

Please remember that I lost a child.   The McCann's too lost a child.   I have experience that thankfully most dont.

Different circumstances ... but the overall effects on the parent will be similar.  My experience is therefore very relevant.

My good fortune was that despite mistakes (mainly the doctors) I had unswerving support.  The McCain's McCanns had a vociferous group constantly trying to destroy them, even making up appalling soul destroying stories about them

Destroy them because of nothing more than disinformation, myths, dont trust them, dont like them, jealousies etc. ... and sheer ignorance   8()(((@#

PS that avatar is a bit extreme, but you get the gist of my feelings?

It's up to Sadie and anyone else if they choose to share a personal anecdote.

All she was saying was that people have different ways of trying to cope in a tragic situation and how support is more helpful than twisting the knife.

I agree, and sometimes talking about such matters helps.

And it is personal experience that is pertinent.

You have to have lost a dearly loved child to KNOW what it does to you.

Sadie,

I am sorry for your loss and I am sorry to have offended you

That was not my intention - I just favour dispassionate debate

But I obviously upset you a great deal

Rachel

Thankyou.

I am feeling a bit embarrassed because whilst we never forget our gorgeous little boy, it was almost 40 years ago and we have come to terms with things.  One has to when one has other children.

But also one knows what it felt like and remembers.

sadie, do not feel embarrassed in any way.  I am very sorry to hear about your loss, and it is brave of you to share it with us.  You are in a position to truly empathise with what Kate and Gerry McCann are going through.

I agree that empathy for the McCanns can come from having suffered personal loss of a child and I think that personal stories can be relevant and revealing of posters' viewpoints.

I believe at least one other poster here has suffered the loss of a child in sad circumstances but has a different take on the situation.

It is quite interesting to watch the different approaches to the case.
