The question of sedatives such as Calpol.
« on: May 22, 2013, 12:23:43 AM »
The possible use of a sedative has been mentioned in the case several times including with particular reference being made to Calpol.

Indeed, it is part of Gonçalo Amaral's claim that a sedative played some part in what he alleges was Madeleine's death.

Lets have a look at what this is all about.

A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
Indeed, the truth never changes with the passage of time.

If the abductor sedated her or her parents sedated her, who would know ? If she had only been sedated over the holiday there would be no historical signs of sedation.

I believe they would be able to tell from a hair sample how long the person had been given drugs.

Not if it was only for days.

It depends on which drug. Benzodiazepins vanish very quickly.

It was Calpol Amaral mentioned wasn't it.

Though I really cannot see two Doctor's giving an overdose of anything.

So why would they hide the body?

Maybe not a overdose ? Maybe just enough to make the child disorientated, leading to an accident ? The McCanns would still have to explain why they were sedating their children.

Yes, only Calpol (due to a misunderstanding by Amaral). The rest is pure speculation - no sedatives were ever found anywhere in the McCanns' possession inside the apartment.

How hard do you think it would be to dispose of a small bottle or box of pills or drops ?

Refresh my somewhat tired memory, Calpol was not on sale when the McCanns were supposedly dosing their children with it?  Clever trick that if that is what they were using.    >@@(*&)

Calpol Night, which I believe had a sedative effect, wasn't. I myself think the Calpol issue is one massive red herring.

There was another version of Calpol, called Calpol Night, that was released on the market after Madeleine's disappearance. Regular Calpol is a pain killer (Paracetamol) & nothing else, Calpol Night on the other hand contained a mild sedative to aid sleep.

Thanks for that, Mrs B.  So why give ordinary Calpol to anyone as a sedative?

Calpol isn't a sedative.

There's no reason, it's simply not possible to sedate people by the use of Paracetamol, large amounts of [it - ETA] can give liver damages in the long term. Huge amounts can cause your liver to stop functioning after a while & of course that can lead to death. Which is very rare btw.
