Common sense and seeing the bigger picture take flight if there is the slightest chance of being able to excoriate Madeleine McCann's parents.

Why is no-one getting agitated that people who have been designated arguidos (remembering that the change in Portuguese law demands there must be evidence to allow this) have not been given the 'opportunity' to take a polygraph test.

Just another example of futile McCann bashing and the fact it keeps on being resurrected on fora is a measure of the desperation that a misguided eight year vilification campaign has been stripped bare and is being shown in its true light.
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

So why do some use them ?

I never said everyone, I.e. court or police investigation used them.

I said they are used around the world.

and that is true.

They are used around the world..as are psychics...those using them understand their limitations...you don't seem to

and that post is the standard riposte of the dedicated mccann supporter.

That is the essential truth behind your posting.

The viability to accept that what has happened is solely the fault of the mccanns, unless proven otherwise.

'misguided' ?

By whose margins.

Yours ?

Polygraphs are inaccurate ... they are not admissible in either Portuguese or British courts ... therefore reference to their use as far as these jurisdictions are concerned is nothing more than diversion for the great unwashed when boredom with their other fantasies kicks in.

So you are saying polygraphs never work.

Yes or No ?

Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.

So useful as entertainment and as a device for crime writers. But f**k all use as an investigative tool.

It is not without reason that they are not admissible in European courts, and only admissible in some states in the US with the agreement of ALL parties.

The McCanns appear to have offered to take a test if requested by the Portuguese authorities.

They have to be used JP in conjunction with the investigative procedure.

Not in isolationm.

Hardly old fruit.

You merely demonstrate by that comment you back the mccanns to  the exclusion of all logic.

Where did I suggest use in isolation?  The fact remains that there is no objective proof of effectiveness, and they remain inadmissible in European courts.

What the McCanns spokesman said was not unreasonable -that they would be prepared to take a polygraph test if it was requested by the Portuguese authorities.  No such request has been made. End of story.

This thread seems to be more about Tricias polygraph man throwing a hissy fit that the McCanns would not accede to his demands.

They're admissible as court evidence in the US though? Courts in the US seem to have a far more brutal deliverance of justice imo! Far more lengthy prison sentences, 3 hits and you are out, death penalty etc...

I don't blame the McCann's in this instance. Their spokesman clearly says a polygraph asked for by the PJ. This guy administers polygraphs on Trisha(maybe he's good, but maybe he's another opportunist who crawled out the woodwork) and anyone would want to be reassured as to their reliability. Whole topic looks like a press created drama imo.

In those states where they are admissible, it is only with the agreement of all parties that the results may be used in court.
