Interesting. I always thought the way Tanner said the child was carried reflected an injured or dead person. In the early days when I saw that I thought a child was sick and was being taken to a local doctor/clinic, no parent carries a live child like that, and also why would any abductor carry a live child like that

A sleeping child would be carried like that during a few meters in fear to wake the child up. But if Madeleine was alive, she was sedated and wouldn't wake up anyhow. The carrier had no reason to carry his prey this way.

Given that neither Gerry or Jez report seeing Jane there on that night, i would say it is far from certain she was there then.

So how does she know they were there having a conversation? If she wasnt there? and if she wasnt why say so?

She heard at the table that Mr McCann had chatted with Mr JW and assumed it wouldn't be logical Mr McCann crossing the street when Mr JW had to do it anyhow ?
She could have gone as she said and on the way back, at the T junction, seen Mr McCann and Mr JW parting, Mr JW using the alley path and this way both men not seeing her.

The carrier was the same person and the Smiths were meant to see him.  Now work it out!!
