This is the kind of information often released by forces in order to increase the viewing of important and potentially case-breaking Crimewatch reconstructions which they are involved in.

And you seem to be very much off target with your reference to this article coming from the paper you suggest by your rather nasty reference.  That reference is usually reserved for the Daily Mail. Never mind, you might realise that after posting for a while. After all we don't expect anti McCanns to get even simple details right when they read things and you seem to be fitting the bill perfectly.

My comments about the phones comes from my previous experience of carrying out forensic investigations on hard disks. It's one thing finding the files and another altogether proving who put them there.

I was off target with the paper, and though I may not have posted much on here I have been online since 1991, back when the internet was pretty much the domain of of the military and academia so I have posted quite a bit over the years.

As for getting everything right - well we all make mistakes, a sentiment which I'm sure your ...removed unnecessarily provocative comment ...

I really am shocked that you could post so nastily about the search for a missing child. You appear to show no hope in your heart for her at all.

And how many of these leads did the Portuguese Police simply ignore? Perhaps a calculator could be applied to that issue too.

Here is one clear example to start with.

Swiss police officers were immediately struck by the physical similarities between Ylenia and Madeleine, who had both gone missing within weeks of each other. They alerted Interpol which, in turn, contacted the Portuguese authorities about its suspicions on August 17.

When it did not get a response, it contacted them again on September 3. Again, there was no response, we were informed by sources  in Interpol.

We now know why.

Just four days later, on September 7, Kate and Gerry McCann were named as arguidos in the Portuguese investigation. On September 11, police submitted a summary of their case against them to prosecutors.

SURE. After the Public Ministry forbade the portuguese PJ to trace phone calls, they were going to authorize a foreign police force to do it? In your dreams.
Mr and Mrs may do all the appeals they wish, in fact they are trying to work for it, but after this trial I doubt they will have the "energy".

In any case, I do hope that there is something positive going on towards finding what happened to little Madeleine - she is the only one that counts.

That's a surrealistic question. The pertinent issue would be "how can we help the McCanns in the mess they've put themselves in ?".

And who announced the information to the journalists? And who arranged the Crimewatch Reconstruction? Do you simply not understand that this information is not the kind of information that Mitchell would have without SY? Do you simply not understand that BBC Crimewatch Reconstructions are done in conjunction with POLICE FORCES?

It is Mitchell's job as spokesperson (unpaid I believe) to highlight things such as this when they are proposed by the BBC and SY. You appear to think he controls these organisations. Such cynical thinking looks quite silly.

I don't follow all cases but I do have respect for the officers at Scotland Yard and I more than suspect they have a better idea of how to deal with this than forum posters do and I prefer to trust the judgement of those officers rather than forum posters whose anti McCann pedigree colours their posts on the issue.
