That was nice of you ... but to stretch the point, what is your opinion of Express staff writers ?
... what do you make of that newspaper article drummer posted ?
Having re-read today's
Express article this morning, my overwhelming feeling is one of sadness. After six and a half years, we are reading that police are looking at phone traffic in PdL, and that this is one of the main aspects of their investigation. So sad that a little girl is still missing, partly because basic matters were not properly investigated in those early days.
One would have thought that a proper analysis of phone data would have been one of the first things an investigating force would have taken charge of, but as we know, police only had a cursory look at the matter at the time.
We can debate endlessly about phone technology, and the limitations on what can be accomplished in an analysis of phone traffic given the technology then, but the bottom line is that this is only one of many matters that were swept under the rug during those crucial first few hours and days of the investigation. If not for the failure to conduct the early investigation in a professional manner, it is very possible that Madeleine would have been found and we wouldn't be sitting here today having these debates.
I am not saying anything at all new here, I realise. I am just struck today by how sad it is that after all this time, police are still doing basic spadework.
Much as I am willing to extend criticism to the McCanns if they appear to be doing something counterproductive in the search for their daughter, the bottom line is that they and successive detectives have had to direct enormous resources merely at making up for some of the very basic measures that ought to have been undertaken by police at the start.
