there was one cctv from a petrol station I remember but it was poor quality where a girl was seen in a car with 3 men and a woman..don't know if anyone remembers it...

Now that you've pointed this out it makes perfect sense! The guy knew Dr Amaral would be put on the case, knew his reputation as a boozy bumbling cop and realised he wouldn't need to do any planning for this pre planned abduction!

Hence the hour in the apartment, the wandering around town with a kidnapped child who could've screamed blue murder at any point and no car!

It's like a revelation!

I think we are talking about Portuguese police in general as they all agreed with amaral...plus the fact that they have to spend so much time away from work answerrring criminal charges. do you realise how many involved in the case have been convicted or are awaiting trial. as I understand amaral has another case going back 10 years where he has been accused of beating up   a prisoner

We don't even know if the cameras were switched on, whether or not they could record at night, where they were pointed or what the legal process is Portugal for viewing it.

FYI in the UK if you have a private CCTV system you do not have to show it to the police on request. You can refuse and insist they get a warrant.

I would want to know the legal process required before condemning anyone.

The CCTV are limited to private use. For example, if you live in a propriety complex you have a CCTV for security reasons. You can also have a camera filming whoever enters in your building (I have one of these, it is always off, I hate viewing somebody who can't see me), but it only catches people who are ringing the bell, not the street.

The child was having an altercation with the woman.[15] The following day it was reported that the car from the petrol station had British number plates and it was claimed that the person caught taking photographs was one of the men on the CCTV footage.[13][16]

Even if the Portuguese police are the worlds crappiest police force ever in the history of the entire world, even if each and every one of them belongs in a Monty python sketch, this crime  doesn't bear the hallmarks of a planned abduction!

davel, it just doesn't make sense! why no car? why hang around for an hour? why didn't Madeleine (if it was her with Smithman) scream at any point in the ten minute walk?

I can not accept that a planned abduction would look like that. At the very, very least I would expect transport.

And why head towards the beach? Was he expecting a submarine?
