Police set to interview former handy men who worked at Madeleine holiday club

POLICE probing Madeleine McCann’s disappearance want to interview two odd-job men who worked at the Algarve holiday club where she vanished.

The pair had worked inside the McCann family’s apartment two days before she was snatched. They later told police a gang of gypsies were responsible for burglaries in the area.

The Portuguese men are just two of 41 on a Scotland Yard list of “people of interest”. They were employed at the Ocean Club in Praia da Luz.

A separate case review by Portuguese police has also come to the conclusion that resort employees could hold the key to Madeleine’s disappearance in May 2007.

Both forces have run exhaustive background checks on a number of people questioned during the original inquiry. But according to Portuguese public prosecutors the investigations turned up “very little”.

More than 130 employees were quizzed by detectives led by former police chief Goncalo Amaral in the original inquiry .

They included the two maintenance workers who fixed a window blind in the McCanns’ holiday apartment two days before the three-year-old went missing.

Luis Ferro and Mario Moreira were ordered to flat 5A to mend a broken blind in parents Kate and Gerry McCann’s bedroom around 10am on May 1, 2007.

During an interview four days after Madeleine vanished Mr Ferro blamed gypsies for a spate of thefts in the area but offered no information on how the youngster disappeared. The handyman told officers he saw Roma stealing firewood from one of the resort’s warehouses about four months before the girl’s disappearance.

Mr Moreira, who had been working at the Ocean Club for 20 years when he was interviewed, said he had not noticed anything strange in the days leading up to Madeleine’s disappearance and was at home at the time. Police involved in the initial probe reported at the time: “Nothing relevant or useful for the ongoing investigation came out of the interviews.

“Nothing was obtained from them that permitted us to follow any new line of investigation.”

Most of the staff working at the Ocean Club when Madeleine disappeared have now moved on. And there is no suggestion the two maintenance workers are in any way connected to Madeleine’s disappearance. The case was reopened earlier last week by Portugal’s attorney-general after police in the country unearthed fresh leads. A source close to the case said: “The original inquiry had holes in it. New material relating to what happened before and after Madeleine’s disappearance has been unearthed.

“Connecting that with information in the existing case files has led to more than reasonable suspicions about what happened to Madeleine that night.”

BEASTS'S BUS LAIR - MADDIE SECRETS OF p**do KILLERS' LIFE IN SPAIN EXCLUSIVE

McCann suspects kitted out old coach
Monsters run out of town by angry dad
Sun, The (London, England) - Sunday, October 27, 2013
Author: GARY O'SHEA
g.oshea@the-sun.co.uk

EX-pals of two monsters probed over Madeleine McCann 's abduction told how the perverts kitted out a battered bus with a plush interior to prowl Spanish resorts for kids.

Killer paedos Charles O'Neill, 50, and William Lauchlan, 36, are feared to have lured children on board with a puppy. A former friend told The Scottish Sun on Sunday how the beasts also:

PREYED on runaway kids and young holidaymakers and kept one teen as their personal servant

WORE crucifixes to con people into thinking they were God-fearing churchgoers

FLED when a furious dad put a brick through the window of the red bus and threatened to kill them.

One woman, now 50, who befriended the pair in Albir, near Benidorm, said: "They lived in a single-decker bus which they parked on wasteland close to the main drag.

"It had been professionally converted. As you went on there were a couple of long couches. Further down there was a shower and at the end a double bedroom. They would invite people on to drink wine.

"There were curtains at the back so no one could see in. They had a puppy too, a beautiful boxer they bought at a few weeks old.

"Knowing what I know now, you realise how perfect a puppy like that would have been as bait for children, just by walking it along the streets.

"Once, when the pup got ill, they scraped together £600 for vet fees.

"They had a teenage English boy living on the bus. He was too young to get a job in town so he cleaned the bus while they worked.

"They said they went to church every Sunday and wore necklaces with crucifixes.

"Looking back, you can see why they were making such an effort to come across like that."

Another woman who knew them in Spain said: "Rumours were flying around about what was happening on that bus. It was frightening."

Lovers O'Neill and Lauchlan resemble e-fits of men wanted by Madeleine cops.

Last week The Scottish Sun on Sunday told how Met cops are investigating them after speaking to former pal Ewan Wilson who put them up in 2006-7. Mr Wilson, 62, who is not a suspect, spoke to cops in Edinburgh for a second time on Wednesday.

O'Neill and Lauchlan arrived in Albir in 2003 claiming to be second cousins.

Expat pals had no idea the pair had just finished jail terms in Scotland for 21 indecent assaults against boys aged 11-15. O'Neill was also wanted for a 1986 attack on a prison guard in Australia. And in 1997 they had killed mum Allison McGarrigle, 39, in Largs, Ayrshire — for which they were jailed for life in 2010. Back in 2003 they spun lies to hide their criminal past.

The former pal said: "Anyone can be anyone out here. No one knew about the child abuse. I had two boys and a girl — thankfully they rarely met them.

"Will told people he was an accountant who'd taken time off to travel. They said Charlie had done a runner from Australia after knocking someone out. No one knew the real story — that he left the prison guard in a permanent vegetative state.

"I ran a bar at the time and paid them cash in hand to wash pots.

"They stayed a few months. We'd often share a drink — they were my salvation during a break-up. Now I'm disgusted I was ever their friend.

"One day they told me they had to leave in a hurry as they were getting threats. People were calling them p.a.e.d.o.philes. They kept saying, 'It's not true. But we have to go.' They sold the bus for £1,700, bought a car and left with the puppy." A second woman said: "One night an Irish dad put a brick through the bus window.

"They'd had his young son on board and he was furious. The dad had had run-ins with the law so he didn't want police involved.

"He basically chased them out of town. They had to leave or he would have killed them."

In April 2004, four miles away in Benidorm, the pair abducted an English lad for three nights and tried to sexually assault him. Soon after they were extradited to the UK for breaking their parole by being in Spain.

They were first quizzed over Madeleine 's abduction in 2011 when Leicestershire cops met them behind bars.

O'Neill and Lauchlan's similarity to new e-fits has also brought fresh hope to Madeleine 's parents Kate and Gerry. Police declined to comment last night.

Luis Felipe Monteiro Ferro statement

Said he began working at Ocean Club March 2006.

His tasks include cleaning pools and fixing things in the flats.

On the day of Maddie's disappearance he finished work at 3.30pm.

Met Kate between 10 am and 11am on May 1 with his colleague and they mended a blind in Kate and Gerry's room.

Told cops Kate was alone and he only entered the parents' room and kitchen.

Blamed spate of local robberies on gypsies.

Mario Domingos Moreira statement

Said he worked for Ocean Club for 20 years carrying out repairs. Saw Kate just once when he went to mend the blind in her room.

The window faced the tapas restaurant where Kate and Gerry dined on the night Maddie vanished.

Did not notice anything suspicious and said he was at home when Maddie was taken.

And so it begins.  Is Scotland Yard still leaking like a sieve or are we now going to have a two by two review of every employee who worked at OC in May 2007?
A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
Indeed, the truth never changes with the passage of time.

I wouldn't be surprised if these interviews haven't already taken place. I hope every employee of the Ocean Club is re interviewed. Don't forget, only the PJ can interview Portuguese people, and these two are Portuguese!

As it says in the article:

A separate case review by Portuguese police has also come to the conclusion that resort employees could hold the key to Madeleine’s disappearance in May 2007.

Ah, Yes, a few WERE NOT interviewed at all. Do you think they might interview Amaral and his staff?

Some just say, this employee was not at work, so was not interviewed.

I was always saying this.. Not the permanent staff but the seasonal workers, who in the winter worked in other Mark Warner resorts, kind of travellers with no fixed address.. were these all interviewed?

As there were reports that Mark Warner immediately after this incident moved some staff from Portugal
to their resort in Kos, Greece. And why was this? And some of these people worked with Madeleine. So, why?

They were low paid workers from all around the world who came to work for Mark Warner and same time have fun.. this was what the adverts for these jobs were saying.. and I've checked this in 2007, it was still available on MW website.

Two British paedophiles questioned over Madeleine McCann disappearance
   9 May 2011 00:01

TWO British paedophiles have been quizzed by police investigating Madeleine McCann’s disappearance, it emerged yesterday.

TWO British paedophiles have been quizzed by police investigating Madeleine McCann’s disappearance, it emerged yesterday.

Charles O’Neill, 48, and William Lauchlan, 34, were touring Spain and possibly Portugal when the youngster vanished in May 2007.

The pair, from Glasgow, were jailed last year – O’Neill for 30 years and Lauchlan for 26, for carrying out sex attacks on children and murdering a mum who threatened to expose them.

A source said: “It cannot be overestimated how violent these two are. They are known to have strong links to other paedophiles.”

O’Neill resembles a suspect seen in Praia da Luz before Maddy, three, vanished.

It is the first time it has become public knowledge that British police interviewed anyone in connection with the case.

Leicestershire police would not comment but a senior officer in the investigation said: “It’s true, they have been interviewed in prison.”

A McCann family spokesman said it was “encouraging” that police were still seeking information about Maddy.

they were questioned ..but that means nothing ..hence they being questioned again ...

Someone has keys

http://www.mccannfiles.com/id301.html

Forward in time to the following year (1 May, 2008) and an interview with Nicky Campbell for Radio 5 Live Breakfast. What do we hear?

KM: "Madeleine's still missing and we need to get that key bit of information from somebody, errm... which will lead to us finding her."

Now let's consider some further commentary from this same interview, not in the sequence in which it occurred necessarily, but one which has a certain explanatory power nonetheless (the first exchange at least is intact).

GM: "Yeah. I mean, clearly, we haven't got the key bit of information that will lead us to finding Madeleine but, I think, the way we try to, errr... think about it is, it's like a jigsaw."

NC: Do you have... do you have theories that you're working on?

GM: You know, clearly, the investigators are looking at all options and scenarios and that... that's the key thing; there are a host of scenarios here, errr... and there... in very many of those scenarios, Madeleine is alive in them.

'Very many' maybe - but not all. En passant, it is revealing that Gerry McCann should invite public acknowledgement of there being no evidence Madeleine is alive:

GM: We have contact with the Foreign Office, errm... from predominantly a consular basis. We do put requests in, that we do want to get as much information as possible and, I think, what we've asked, and will ask repeatedly, is: 'what evidence does anyone have to suggest that Madeleine is dead?' because we know of no evidence to suggest otherwise and we would like a public acknowledgment of that.

Our primary concern however is with 'keys.'

GM: We do want to remind people that, obviously, the key thing here is Madeleine.…... Errm... and we're in a... we're here, we're appealing, errr... we know we've been criticised for doing media. This is only the second appeal Kate and I have done in seven months, errr... so it's not like we're in... out there on a regular basis but we are in a very difficult situation because we believe someone - a member of the public - holds the key.

Kate McCann:  "Please please have the courage & confidence to come forward now & share that information with us..
and you could unlock this whole case"

Maybe not keys for a door then, but an undamaged case.

Kate McCann:  "The general public have been fantastic but please stay with us..and come forward."

Please stay with us she asks, does she perhaps worry that the general public might stop being fantastic?!
And us coming forward is just some sort of an after thought.
