I am really a bit sad about him.  He did seem to me to be a bit half decent.  But he was obviously already very ill by the time Madeleine was abducted.  And he did have to cope with the lovely Sofia frequently demanding protection from her husband.  Christ knows how he dealt with that.

PJ doesn't equal Amaral, I don't believe the whole PJ force is disgraceful. I believe this new team is professional and up to the task..
We don't know what they are working on but analysing phone usage on May3 is good enough for the beginning and reinterviewing the staff and taking it on from the scratch.

Wasn't there a female police officer under him who was responsible for destroying of evidence of pedophiles and not passing it to him and he got the blame for it? An very old story before Madeleine went missing?

I have never heard of that.  And I don't think that there were ever any women PJ Officers in Portimao.  Things might have been a bit different if there had been.
