I am not that old, but whenever I'm confronted with elimination of text  I recall the blue crayon of the censors (dictatorship prior to April 1974)....
Don't you agree insulting posts should be deleted ? There are a few posters who never debate or express an idea or even play the chorus part. I find it unhealthy.

Yes, that's one of the problems.

SY are being very unclear to the public on what message they are trying to get across.

Are the e-fits the same person, different people..? Without following the case it's hard to take in.

The crimewatch reconstruction went so quickly. The fact that the Smith sighting consisted of a whole family of people who saw a man carrying a child - hence the different e-fits - was mentioned only very briefly. Would people have understood in passing what these two pictures were supposed to be about?

Added to that, they look very different. So how anyone unfamilliar with the details of the case would be expected to grasp in a flash that they were supposed to represent the same person it's hard to imagine.

All very badly thought out and not very clearly done.

I agree that the crimwatch appeal was not clear at all, and,  having watched it again,  I am at a loss as to it's actual purpose

We were told,  for instance,  that the man Jane Tanner saw was   'almost certainly'   not an abductor

Almost  certainly not an abductor   ?

What does that mean  ?  ...  that they're not  absolutely  sure  that he wasn't an abductor  ?  ...  and if that's the case how can they possibly  rule him out altogether as far as the crimewatch appeal was concerned  ?

Why didn't they present Jane Tanner's description of the man,  in a  just in case' kind of way  ...  saying that whilst we are almost certain that the man seen at 9.15pm was not the abductor,  some doubts remain,  and we cannot dismiss the possibility altogether at this point

Instead,  Tanner's sighting was rejected out of hand, with no explicit reason for doing so having been given

Then there's the   'too far open'   bedroom door

This anomaly was always presented as  'accommodating'  the Jane Tanner sighting  ...  the abductor having already been in the apartment before Gerry made his check at 9.05pm

If Scotland Yard accept that the children's bedroom door had been opened by someone  ( other than the McCanns )  as early as 9.00pm that night,  what is their explanation for it  ?

If they think someone  (  an abductor )  had been in the apartment at 9.00pm,  what do they think happened between that time and  10pm,  when,  they suggest,  he may have been seen by the Smiths  ?

The whole thing was very odd indeed

Good point. Now I understand the Crimewatch absurd release.
I hope that unlike Jill Dando they don't find an innocent person to fit their criminal profile.

But what am I saying? After all Scotland Yard is the best police in the world - when they are not shooting innocent citizens, that is.

I agree that neither the Dando case nor the shooting of an innocent man would happen in Portugal....in Portugal George would still be in prison and labelled guilty because there are no successful appeals according to Montclair and the innocent man would be labelled guilty and evidence manufactured to prove him guilty

there isn't much to be gained by tit-for-tat abuse of police forces. I'm a big supporter of the UK police, I think they do a very hard job and, on the whole, are a trustworthy and professional force. But I am able to accept that the murder of an innocent civilian is wrong and doesn't paint the force in the best of lights.

As for the the forces of other countries I don't feel able to comment, but I'm sure that they all make the same kinds of errors at times.

If Luz is going to attack the uk police then I will defend them...theres nothing tit for tat.. you are absolutely right all police forces make mistakes ...the difference is that uk forces on the whole admit to them. Montclair told us yesterday that in his 37 years of living in Portugal he has never heard of someone being freed on appeal...so the portuguese either never make mistakes or they don't own up to them

Yes it only took them 20 odd years to admit to lying about their role in the Hillsborough disaster didn't it.

Since there's two police forces independently investigating, what happens if they both come up with a different suspect?
