Praia da Luz is far too small a village for any real long term burglary to go on by organised groups. The professional burglar knows that if he strikes the same area twice the police are more likely to want to do something about it. My own feelings are that the thefts in and around PdL were the work of petty thieves and opportunists who were looking for cash and jewellery to sell quickly.
Had there been a gang in the area I have no doubt the GNR would have squashed them quickly.
John, PdL isn't big, but it isn't tiny either. It is almost small town size, I guess. Stetches west along the coast quite a bit.

Quite densely populated in some areas cos of buildings being several storeys high and divided into apartments, but still somehow has a feeling of coziness and spaciousness ! Good architecture, I guess by mainly architect Robin Crossland, who was joint owner of OC and other blocks of holiday apartments with David Symington and (forgotten his first name) Garveigh. Fairly unpopulated in other areas.
Only a smallish shopping centre tho, from memory.
Has a cozy and quiet village feel but really is quite sizeable
