Are SY up to speed yet, or are they still working their way through things discarded by PJ long ago ?
I believe everything. And l believe nothing.
I suspect everyone. And l suspect no one.
I gather the facts, examine the clues... and before   you know it, the case is solved!"

Or maybe not -

OG have been pushed out by the Germans who have reserved all the deck chairs for the foreseeable future

Are we?  Have you given any thought as to why the Portuguese Attorney General decided to reopen the case which could not have been done without the backing of his Government colleagues and all well aware of the potential political embarrassment?

It is pity that we have not been informed exactly what the Oporto PJ picked up during their review of this case but it must have been something substantial for the PAG to even consider the matter never mind actually do it.

I'm not aware that PT conducts reviews of cold cases unless new information drops on the desk of whichever officer is charged with evaluating it. The fact that the Met had undertaken a review and wanted to work with PT may have been a major step forward in that direction.

The fact that a serial child sexual abuser doesn't appear to have been seriously investigated may be part of it... and which may - or may not - be linked to burglaries, drug offences or whatever else. Whether there is a connection to Madeleine or not, there were leads that don't appear to have been fully eliminated.

We've gone through dozens of suspects and scenarios, millions of pounds and hours of manpower, and ended up right where Amaral left off.

One possibly deceased Madeleine in 5a, and the Smith sighting of a guy who looks like her father carrying her down to the beach.

Of course the irony is lost on Team McCann who are still roping in tractormen, dead pedophiles, gypsies, 3 burglars, 2 germans, and a partridge in a pear tree.

In my opinion, the review which led to Madeleine’s case being re-opened and the subsequent investigation has not led to the point where Dr Amaral left off.

According to everything Dr Amaral has stated in public and in his book, his conviction is that Madeleine’s parents are complicit in covering up her death, hiding her body and subsequently disposing of it.

Obviously NSY and the PJ reviews investigated that possibility and discarded it, since the investigation does not consider the parents to be persons of interest.

Mr Smith’s original description does not identify Dr McCann, his later statement, which he withdrew was not backed up by his family.
"Urged, he states that the individual did not appear to be a tourist. He cannot explain this further. It was simply his perception given the individual's clothing."  http://www.mccannpjfiles.co.uk/PJ/MARTIN_SMITH.htm

Please take note that whoever you consider ‘Team McCann’ to be, all the ‘partridges in pear trees’ seem to be ‘roped in’ by ‘sources close to the PJ’ leaking information to the Portuguese press which is then picked up by the British press.

Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

All these cases of assaults on tourist children on the Algarve makes one wonder how many others were either not reported or not detected for one reason or another?
A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
Indeed, the truth never changes with the passage of time.
