Just a small correction. The judge for the trial rejected the McCanns' request to make a statement. They then appealed and were allowed to do so. The judge will be allowed to question them and the other lawyers will also be able to ask for clarifications through the judge.

So, effectively,  the McCanns can be  'cross examined'  in a court of law  ?

The Judge said that even the title of his book was suspect.  Personally, I think it is a downright lie.

Of course you do.

Doesn't make it true though.

Montclair.  Do you happen to know why the judge refused permission in the first instance and to whom did Duarte make the appeal ?
A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
Indeed, the truth never changes with the passage of time.

I can only make conjectures but it is possible that the judge refused to give permission for the parents to speak because she believed that she already had enough evidence from the other witnesses in order to give her verdict. I suppose that the McCanns appealed to the Appeals Court.
