Well, well, well it appears, according to the Times, that it WAS the McCanns who handed the 'troll' dossier over to the police.

So who gave it to the media ?
Well the photo caption indicates that the private detective work (basic find an internet posters id then find where they live stuff) to trace the now deceased lady was commisioned by some unsavoury individual who then fed the results to a totally innocent person to pass to police.
As for which person then fed the dossier stuff to the press, I have no idea, a wild guess would be someone who works in the PR industry? ;)

If it hadn't been passed to the media you wouldn't know of its existence.

Which is as it should have been until charges were brought.

Why that didn't happen we can only surmise at this point.
Brietta posted on 10/04/2022 “But whether or not that is the reason behind the delay I am certain that Brueckner's trial is going to take place.”

Let’s count the months, shall we?

Who stood to gain by leaking it to the press?

What else would you expect them to do with it?
The notion that innocence prevails over guilt – when there is no evidence to the contrary – is what separates civilization from barbarism.    Unfortunately, there are remains of barbarism among us.    Until very recently, it headed the PJ in Portimão. I hope he was the last one.

Well those who submitted the dossier, which of course was made available in early September, have now tried to disappear, and have certain media accounts closed.

However, I have read some of these peoples' names are known.

How can you possibly know that if  the names of those who compiled and submitted the dossier have not been officially revealed or confirmed.      Wishful thinking and wild speculation doesn't count.    But it is how myths are created.

These people passed on the dossier to Sky News.

Brenda Leyland is  dead.

Would she be dead now if they hadn't ?

Your usual deflective tactics are noted.

My post was nothing to do with Mrs Leyland.

Are you claiming to know who 'These people' are or not?

Deflection NO.

Just read what I said.

P.S. Would Brenda Leyland now be dead, if the dossier hadn't been given to Sky News ?

A simple YES or NO, would of course suffice.

no...but she was in the dossier because of her own actions...it's her fault she is in the dossier

An interesting question, Stephen.  An individual may be called to account for anything they publish - ranging from word of mouth to email to blogs and twitter.

In her guise as "sweepyface" Brenda Leyland apparently published around 4000 items, some of them unpleasant.

I think perhaps we need to consider the following questions first.

Is there an absolute righ to freedom of speech?

Do we want a free press?

Do individuals have a right to anonymity?

The question comes, where do draw the line with the press ?

They have undoubtedly revealed many cases of both  corruption and malfeasance, by individuals and groups, for many decades and have therefore helped bring criminals to justice.

They have also been responsible for destroying peoples' lives.................................
