I am assuming that the police do not have the resources to spend time monitoring Twitter and FB.   And they shouldn't have to IMO - that 's the responsibilty of the site owners.    If they had  closed BL's accounts as a result of complaints -  then what happened may well have NOT happened.

When I first joined AOL  Message Boards they were properly monitored.  The rule was 'attack the post and not the poster'.    Three  breaches of that rule - and you  lost your AOL account.

When they decided to stop paying the moderators and removed them - 'trolls' started creeping in.  The problem got worse and worse.  People left in droves.    Rather than spend money on sorting it out AOL simply closed down all their message boards.

That's not the way to go IMO.  Effective  'moderating' is the answer IMO.   And if that existed there would be no need for concerned members of the public to bring attention to the lawbreaking which is largely being ignored at the moment on Twitter and FB.

All IMHO

(must go out now)

How come there have been prosecutions for twitter law-breakers already?..........Some seem to warrant police resources and attention.

There have also been libel cases..............Where do Carter Ruck fit in with regard to the McCanns` and their supporters concerns about what`s posted on twitter and your collective desire to make an example of someone as a deterrent?

Why select Ms Leyland to in fact "carry the can" for what you feel are faults within the system/site owners or in frustration with lack of action from the police?

How "moral" is that from those who feel they occupy the high moral ground?

There could be a role for you, then........ putting your money where your mouth is, instead of bleating on here about it............(Citizen`s Arrest? )
I thought you didn't approve of members of the public reporting to the police when they suspect a crime has been committed?

The PJ and British police were the first to accuse the McCanns of hiding their daughter's body and simulating an abduction after she died in an unfortunate accident in 5A. Therefore, it's not as if someone came up with an absurd story to harrass the couple. This opinion is based on evidence and facts in the police files.
You don't seem to have grasped what we were discussing.  Angelo is of the opinion that being described as a f..king tosser is equally as vile as being accused of causing your own child's death and hiding the body.  Do you agree that they are slurs of equal vileness?

Don't know what Montclair's answer would be.

But I don't think anything can trump being accused of causing the death of your own child, covering up the fact of that death and launching a fraudulent fund in your missing child's name (explicitly made in Amaral's book) ...

Quite.  Call me a f.....g tosser any day.  After all that's a subjective opinion, one to which you are perfectly entitled.  Accuse me of covering up the death of my own child and profiting from my actions is quite another matter entirely.  Knowing it was untrue it would utterly devastate me.

Except, of course, being described as a f****** t*****, especially when you subsequent prove that you are in fact, a  f****** t*****.

I noticed that some posters excused his behaviour as a "sting" operation (and therefore not his fault).

But as anyone who has enountered a wasp will know, if you dont want to get stung don't expose any, ahem, flesh.   8)--))

They may have been pulled off the case to investigate the Trolls who are annoying the McCanns...oh no,  it's ok they sent them to the local bobbies- seems they are not interested in McCanns 'feelings' regarding the trolls.  Well, quite right too!! They have a missing person inquiry to deal with.

I didn`t realise it was my approval you were seeking.

Certainly not, I was just pointing out the disconnect between your instructions to me and your apparent view on what is morally and legally correct vis-a-vis the public reporting suspected crimes to the police.

You need to act on your own beliefs regardless of what you imply are mine..........

Confronting a carefully selected easy target in order to make an example of them "Sky News Style" sits rather more easily with your troll-hunting mind set than mine.

Fair enough.  I'd be delighted if Sky News chose that mad pillowcase woman as their next target tbh, but it strikes me she'd probably thrive on the publicity.  No shame that one, you see.

I understand that there's a comical little bunch of "sceptics" who believe that the dossier compilers have broken a law and will end up going to jail.  Could one of these "sceptics" kindly let us know which law they think the dossier compilers have actually broken, and why they think that?

Perverting the course of justice? If you report something to the police then involve the media in vigilanteeism, then it is a possibility.

Breaching the data protection act.

Illegally obtaining peoples phone numbers and addresses......

....and of course the 'brave' people who did this have tried to hide their identities.
