Madeleine McCann's mother teams up with posties to help in the hunt for missing children

Kate McCann will front the campaign, which will see 124,000 postmen and women get alerts on their scanners, used to track and sign for deliveries, when a child or adult disappears.

Missing hunt: Kate McCann will help find missing children

Madeleine McCann’s mother Kate has teamed up with Britain’s posties to help in the hunt for missing children.

The Royal Mail’s 124,000 postmen and women will get alerts on their scanners, used to track and sign for deliveries, when a child or adult disappears.

The group will also use nearly 2,000 TV screens at mail centres to raise the alarm in the tie-up with charity Missing People, which is promoted by Kate.

A recorded message from the former GP will be shown for the first time on Tuesday to Royal Mail staff on their internal telly network.

In it, Kate, whose three-year-old daughter disappeared from a holiday apartment in Portugal in May 2007, tells them: “We hear of people who are willing to help, who see people every day, see changes in routine every day, and I think it is a really exciting prospect in the crucial role they can play.”

Kate, 46, an ambassador for the charity, helped launch an enhanced child rescue alert scheme in the spring.

She and heart doctor husband Gerry, 46, from Rothley, Leics, believe Madeleine – who would now be 11 – could still be alive.

A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
Indeed, the truth never changes with the passage of time.

Does anyone else find this supremely ironic?  Here we have a woman who when asked a bunch of very simple questions by detectives about the circumstances of her child's disappearance replied with silence.
Most people suspect the truth but few are able to admit it.

I find nothing ironic about it at all, but I do find it sadly predictable that Kate McCann is being bashed for her actions to help missing children yet again.

Had she exercised just a tad of that charitable spirit towards her daughter seven years ago she wouldn't be in this situation now.

I think it is very disappointing even if it is utterly predictable that there are people whose views have become so poisoned that they can see no good in a person who is working very hard on behalf of missing people, particularly children.

Next time a sentence is started ... "Why Madeleine McCann ... what about all the other missing children?" ...
it might be worth wondering what exactly the writer may have done in his or her miserable existence to further
help for anyone at all.

At least Madeleine's mother is doing something positive ... if there are people who have a problem with that ... it says a great deal more about them than they can possibly realise.
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

As a neglecting parent of three children, one of whom disappeared whilst she was out drinking.

Nice.

It's a very smart idea.  Postmen and Postwomen notice things.  Thousands of eyes on the streets daily.

I've printed out and distributed posters of various missing children (as many others have done).

There are two approaches, though, and I was never sure which was best.

- Plaster photos / details wherever possible, in the event that someone passing by might see it and recognise the child, or

- Hand them to staff in pharmacies, check-out staff in supermarkets / petrol stations, etc., to keep under the counter (in case a perp walks in with the child and doesn't expect anyone to recognise him/her).

As long as there remains some doubt over the actual circumstances of Madeleine's disappearance my own view is that it is inappropriate to involve the McCanns in these projects. That said however, I can see why they are being used since 'used' is the operative word.
