TBH Lyall it has gotten to the point where it's almost impossible to know who's pulling whose strings.
While I absolutely agree that the dossier compiler didn't identify Brenda, she was certainly on the supporter's radar and they did pass the information to Sky when it should have remained exclusively in the hands of the police. The dossier compiler wasn't a young ingenue naive to the way of the media. They had seen how the McCanns had been treated when made arguidos and must have been only too aware, knowing the value of any McCann-related story, what Sky would do with the information.
That Sky are equally to blame is undeniable but this was a symbiotic relationship and without both their participation Brenda Leyland would in all likelihood be alive today.
The media was already well aware of social media activity and this 'dossier' was just text that was public anyway on twitter or facebook?
And Sky News didn't need to be told what people had been saying online because Burley had already as good as told us we were being watched.
I obviously can't prove it but it's possible Brunt's programme would have happened anyway sooner or later with or without this 'dossier'. They could just have printed tweets and posts themselves. The involvement of an anonymous person just made it 'better TV' for them.
There can't be much doubt after what Burley said that they were already personally involved, even if they hadn't yet done anything - and that was before S&S's book was published, with all that happened before and afterwards.
I just think a witchhunt for someone who just printed information that was already public is just that - a witchhunt. No good will come from it.
