I've not seen a wikipedia page like that before ...have I been leading a sheltered life?
The process behind the scenes on Wikipedia is often as interesting as the articles themselves. Anyone can create a page (or contribute to editing an existing one), but as it's intended to be an encylopaedia, there are a number of rules as to content and style. All content has to be neutral, backed up by credible secondary sources, so self-publicity and exaggeration are red flags.
The associated talk page is to discuss editorial issues and there can sometimes be pages of discussion over the phrasing or appropriate content of a single sentence.
The process is transparent so the discussions can be viewed by the public, and there is a log of all changes over time for accountability.
Although newbie editors are free to join the discussion, the process is led by - and often mainly between - experienced ones with considerable kudos.
Sonia's original page had claims that, upon checking, they found couldn't be backed up or were substantially exaggerated - hence the discussion.
