Charlie Hebdo magazine is to print three million copies for release on Thursday apparently depicting the prophet Mohammed on the front cover shedding a tear and holding up a sign reading, “Je suis Charlie” in sympathy with the dead journalists. The headline says “All is forgiven”.

The French are divided as to the reasoning behind this publication with some calling it unnecessary provocation while others say that free speech should not be hindered.

Where does free speech end and provocation begin?

Surely it is both provocative and free speech, or rather free cartoonage.  "All is forgiven", though?  Wow, that's something, eh?  Considering the flack a certain Ms Healy received from the "sceptic" community when she said she might consider forgiving Madeleine's abductor.  Just goes to show, the more enlightened you are, the less likely you are to have an Old Testament mentality.

I tried to buy Charlie Hebdo here in the Alps today .... sold out in 3 places!

Good on the magazine for depicting the 'Satanic Verses' prophet again; if muslims are offended so f**king what! It's a cartoon ffs. They should be spending their time being ashamed of what has been done in the name of their religion rather than taking offence over something so trivial!

If Charlie Hebdo was a racist mag then fair enough but it is actually a left wing publication that lampoons all religions and has attacked Marine Le Penn and the other French right wing anti-immigration parties more than anyone else!

I think it is pathetic and cowardly that all the news media in the UK hasn't even dared to show the innocuous cartoons that the radical muslim use as an excuse for murder! Most people will know these aren't the first cartoonists murdered for drawing Muhammad!

Britain has lost its spine to political correctness. It's shown by many posters on here who are up in arms a the mere suspicion someone might be racist but say nothing about literally the 100's of Pakistani child grooming (racist paedophiles) gangs targetting underage British girls.

How bad does it have to get for the country to cut out this cancer in our midst? Muslims kill over cartoons; we do nothing when our children are targetted!

All fair game as far as I'm concerned.  I love satire.  My faves are Spitting Images, Bremner, Bird and Fortune, Little Britain and The Office.  When I posted on The Jeremy Bamber Forum my user name was Naughty Nun and initially my avatar depicted the Virgin Mary (see below) and some posters objected so I changed it.  Anything for a quiet life 

If people choose to believe Abrahamic myths over everything that is now known in terms of science etc then that's their personal choice and they should be free to choose and practice their religion if they so wish but I don't want any of it influencing or impacting any aspect of my life in any shape or form.  I especially don't want it influencing government policy.  If I choose to die because I'm terminally ill and in great pain; I want to die with dignity and be put out my misery by a suitably qualified person administering a lethal injection.  I don't expect to have to hang around if I'm in pain, doubly incontinent with dribble running down the side of my mouth coz a bearded man in the sky hasn't called for me YET!

I also like the programmes you mention..I'm also an atheist...I think we  should treat others with respect and that Charlie went too far.
