Which is exactly the reaction the article was supposed to solicit. An almost week old court judgement and it only surfaces, conveniently, now when there's possibly going to be bad news to bury.

Jim Gamble's also doing his best, bless him. pushing the story on Twitter for all its worth.

So if it's good news for the McCanns it will prove you wrong on both counts

This was a woman who has conducted a relentless campaign for some seven years, against two parents whose daughter is missing.  Who has recently been named as contributing to a "documentary". And who has now been convicted of cynically robbing and abusing her elderly and vulnerable parents.

I can of course understand that she is a huge embarrasment to those who share her view of the case, who would prefer to "just leave it at that" and pretend this vile woman never existed.

It's no embarrassment to me, as I had no contact with her. No, I say "leave it at that" not for her sake, but for her family's. If she doesn't come back to the discussion then that should be the end of it. Imo.

If I had read this as a general news item without any association to the McCanns, I would still find it appalling.

If everyone could leave whatever has happened in the past "at that", then there wouldn't still be people banging on every day for over seven years about the McCanns child-care arrangements in which 1/2 hour checks are deemed by some to be inexcusable "neglect".

And the sad irony is that Butler has been one of the staunchest ring-leaders - she was Bennett's right hand until they fell out and they carried on in their separate ways to continue to berate this family.

There may, of course, be details that haven't yet been revealed and that may have made her feel totally assured that her parents were being cared for in the best possible way while she was away. If so, perhaps they could be made public so that everyone can pore over them. Besides the court, that is.

To be fair by writing things like who knows about those who think nothing of axe murderers, thieves and abusers of the elderly ... so long as they are sharing a certain set of opinions and are happy to spread lies and innuendo over the internet, you are.

Sometimes I hear names mentioned (one being the 'axe murderer' presumably) who are proclaimed as being or having been infamous leading case 'activists', but I've never even heard of these people before. They can't have been that much involved or I would have.

I am not familiar with all the earlier blogs and all the personalities who involved themselves in the campaign against Madeleine McCann's family and by definition Madeleine herself.

I did pick up with some incredulity on John Hirst or the "jailhouse lawyer" who used an axe to kill his landlady. 

At that time I wondered at the sort of person who might give a criminal of this type the time of day ... I now know ... and you are mistaken if you think he did not play a prominent part in the blogosphere these people inhabit.

Perhaps if the elderly, vulnerable couple had been given the courtesy of a family visit, the squalor they were living in and the lack of money to sustain themselves, might have been noticed in time to clean them of their own filth and give them a nourishing meal before the old lady's death.
