If it is true that you can successfully sue someone in Portugal for writing something that is both truthful and accurate about you simply because it upsets you then clearly Portugal has abandoned freedom of speech as one of its tenets.

There was no context, she just blurted it out. I'd say it was quite extraordinary, but in this case it isn't actually.

Best ask the judge.  She couldn't have been clearer in what she told Gerry McCann when he attempted to introduce forensic evidence into the trial.  The truthfulness or otherwise appears not to be the issue.  The issue for the judge was simple and I repeat her words, "Here we are only trying to establish if the freedom of expression of the defendants has affected the rights of the claimants. This court cannot be a substitute of the criminal investigation.

Now as to a hole and a shovel, I suggest you take note.

I'm not interested in guessing but I am curious to know why "sceptics" believe that you can get half a million euros in Portugal cos someone wrote something truthful and accurate about you that then upset you.

So what is their reason ? It appears the judge decided if the information circulating at the moment is correct, that the book neither affected the search nor their children so why are they so happy that their reason for bringing the case has been tossed aside by the judge ?

Of course if it has now been judicially proven that the book didn't hinder the search will it still be ethical for the McCanns to fund any present or future litigation through the fund ?

Indeed.  Whatever happened to Freedom of Speech?  In Portugal you are no longer allowed to cause Anxiety and Trauma, even if what you say is true.
