A credible cite please for Kate or Gerry claiming to have left the keys on the kitchen counter when they went out.

The fact that the keys were seen on the counter after the police arrived  in no way proves when they were put there.

IMO

IMO there is evidence the key was not in the apartment or KM's possession when she arrived for the 10pm check. She did not venture outside into the car park to look for Madeleine & nor did she go to the front door of 5D where she knew JT was. That is indicative the front door in 5A may have been double-locked & the key was unavailable.

They are not in the Army and regimented, as your family was.

As both Benice and Brietta have beautifully pointed out, what was wrong with being near their friends?

First thing we did when we holidayed, was ensure that we liked the positiion of our room and its layout .... AND that it was close to our friends.

On one occasion we looked at several rooms before we settled in.  But once in and happy we were no more trouble to the receptionists.

We aimed to eat together at dinner time and spend the evenings together, but otherwise apart from maybe one day in a fortnight, we preferred to go our own ways .... bumping into each other, or casually searching each other out, as the need and desire occured.

Every one is different Gunit, but we certainly were not going to be pushed into accomodation for a fortnight that was unsuitable.   We had paid the money and we wanted a good holiday ... those minutes at the start of the holiday making sure all was right made such a difference to the quality of our holiday.

In the case of OC., the place was almost empty.  So easy to fit them all in close to each other. So easy to adjust the time of tennis to suit the needs of the families etc.

I cant see why you are griping about it, except it is an obsession a hobby of yours to always try and find fault with The Mccanns.
Now why is that ?  £5%4%

I just love the way you use any personal information you are given to criticise the person sharing it.  8@??)(
I don't know how much you know about life with the forces, but I can assure you that only one member of my family was 'regimented' as you term it.

There's a difference between getting what you've paid for and asking for special treatment which may impact unfavourably on someone else's holiday.

If I see something which I don't approve of I will comment on it. Some may not like that because they appear to have decided that the McCanns and their friends were wonderful people and wonderful parents. Well tough!

The parents admitted to having used the patio door.  Ergo, why on earth would anyone carry keys with them which served no possible purpose?

I go with the Control Risks interview.

Cite from the files, please.

I am of the opinion that the McCanns did use the front door for access in the early part of the holiday, as noted in GM's statement. However, they stated that his reason for not continuing to use the front door was not the distance issue but the noise issue. That suggests to me that the noise of the front door being opened/closed had woken the children - possibly on the Tuesday when the prolonged crying was heard for "Daddy" and maybe Daddy just told the child(ren) to go back to sleep & left them to it.
I assume that both the Oldfields & ROB/JT had an equally noisy front door but neither couple opted for the shorter route to their respective apartments via an unlocked patio door.
All IMHO.

If the issue was noise, which I somewhat doubt.

What about the noise they would make on their return after eating and drinking, to the apartment, presumably after midnight ?

Mrs Penn said she didn't even know they were there ... your suggestion that they may have made enough noise to disturb the children on their return is risible ... as is the presumption about the lateness of the hour.
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

Risible ?

In what way exactly ?

Please elaborate.

By the way, have you ever worked in any establishment when people have been eating and drinking ?

By the way, I have worked in a Pub/Restaurant.

Do you think they would be making more or less noise than if they had been eating & drinking all evening in their apartment while the children were trying to sleep?
Much depends on the background noise you are used to. I don't think I would ever sleep if I lived close to Heathrow or Gatwick, yet so many manage it. Where I am you can almost hear a pin drop at night.

Then we have the claims that the two younger children were sleeping heavily. &%+((£

The Mccann front door, whilst recessed, was open to driving rain.  It was wooden so possibly swelled and warped, creating noise when opened and closed ?   The front doors for all the others were from within the building so sheltered from rain.

Seems quite possible that due to this probable swelling, even with similar doors, there could have been a noticeable difference in noise created when opened and closed   IMHO

Part of life's experience Sadie.

You might have benefitted seeing the behaviour/excesses alcohol consumption can result in.
