If payments cannot be refunded, why was money coming out of the account?
Have a look at PF/Book Pond Appreciation Society.
Also there is an update from LB on Twitter about an hour ago with a copy email regarding the fund.
GlitterBrain on Twitter has just posted an update & copy response direct from GoFundMe - NO REFUNDS.

Money was coming out of the account?

Was an indication given as to the purpose or the reason?

All this faux angst - as if anyone cares  @)(++(*

Justice for Madeleine works in mysterious ways then, if no-one cares someone could be scamming in her name.

I don't know whether you have contributed to the fund (and it's none of my business!)

But if you had, would you not want to know how the money you had contributed might be used?

Oh, I thought this was the "What happens to the donations if an appeal is refused?" thread?

So NO REFUNDS!

So, so what?
People donate to a fund in similar veins. I have never heard of people giving to any cause, charity, what have you, asking for a REFUND. The only potentiality (albeit remote and unlikely) of anyone asking for a refund comes from donators to the Find Madeleine Fund whose monies were NOT all spent on Finding Madeleine.

What a much ado about nothing!

The organiser may care.
Don't know how the tax situation may work here ... but in the USA things can be quite hairy.

Kate said, "My friend's mother was diagnosed with cancer and died within a few short months. As the end was nearing I started a GoFundMe page for my friend (age 24) who was to become the sole guardian of her TRIPLET siblings. Due to an amazing community effort, $36,000 was raised. All said it was a miracle...except when the 1099k came in my name and I was told to CLAIM the $36,000 as INCOME. I cannot do this!

I did not get one cent of this money and my student loans are income based, so if the family even (very kindly) paid the taxes on the money, my student loan payments would increase by $500 a month, something I just can't afford.

We are trying to transfer the account to her name but I am at a loss as what to do. I feel that she shouldn't have to pay taxes on this either, especially when fees were taken out and they netted $33,000, not $36,000. What do we do?"

"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

If I had donated to either fund, which I haven't, I would cease to have any interest in what subsequently  happened to my donation. After all, its only money.

Well somebody has had their £50 donation back, according to Leanne, and the money taken from her account

What about all the poor pensioners and little children who have given their pensions and pocket money to the Gonc Fund?  Don't they have a right to know that it is being spent to protect Amaral's pot of money from those wicked McCanns?

No. Once its gone, its gone. End of.
And yet this argument has been used time and again against the Madeleine Fund.  Go figure...
