Then if you don't get it.

Spend a little time on 'stop the myths', 'just another thought.....' and the few others of the same ilk, reading the open to public posts.

Then you will know what a cult is. 8(0(*

What on earth are you on about ????

@)(++(*       So you really do respond to posts without taking the bother to read them.

We have various photo shopped images on the go ... some of which are best not mentioned because their content is so disgusting.

We have seen one of Mr Amaral, designed and used by supporters ... I was asking about a similar one usually accompanied by the slogan "Go Get 'Em Goncalo!"  Which in my opinion is indicative of a type of adulation associated with cultist behaviour?

Not really all that important ... but that is what I am on about ... if you had read the post to which you replied, you would have noticed that.  Interesting, though.

Whilst you may spend most of your day commenting on this forum  &%+((£, I don't have the time or the inclination to read through every nook and cranny of this case.

I think it may be usual to provide some back-up evidence in support of statements made ... you seldom do.

Whereas no-one needs to trawl anywhere other than GFM to find loads which will illustrate perfectly what it entails to display cult like tendencies.

i.e. You know damn well that the mccann sites are cultists, but you don't have the nerve to say that.

As to supporting statements, yours has to be judged in context of your stance in this case, DOESN'T IT ? 8)--))

Do you mean an online cult?  Does such an entity exist?
I see the title of this thread has been changed from The Cult of Amaral to Does Amaral Have a Cult Following?

What is a cult following?

Quote
A cult following is a group of fans who are highly dedicated to a specific area of culture. A film, book, musical artist, television series or video game, among other things, will be said to have a cult following when it has a small but very passionate fanbase. A common component of cult followings is the emotional attachment fans have to the object of the cult following, often identifying themselves and other fans as members of a community. Cult followings are also commonly associated with niche markets. Cult media are often associated with underground culture, and are considered too eccentric, bizarre, controversial or anti-establishment to be appreciated by the general public, or be a commercial success

despite the fact that Gonc is neither a film, book, musical artist, television series or video game (now there's some money-spinning ideas for Ammy to consider!) I would say that based on the above description that the great man does indeed have a cult following, and yes this is most evident online.

Are you saying people who support Amaral belong to a cult ?

Are you saying people who support the McCann's belong to a cult?

The thing is Stephen,   when you listed the sites you say people belong to a cult,   you failed to list the anti McCann sites didn't you?   These sites could very well be said to have an Amaral  cult following.

Though I would just say,  they are supporters of either McCann or Amaral who just happen to have joined a forum where others agree in what they believe in.

Cult, control, and all its religious, sometimes positive but mainly negative appendages = all the hallmarks of the Mccann Facebook page, the Mccanns  so callex media "campaigns" and much in between

IMO

Totally opposite to supporting freedom of speech or supporting anyone whose right to it has been so hounded and destroyed

Its that simple

But would you not agree that freedom of speech ought to be bounded (at least to a certain extent) by a responsibility to ensure that that spoken freely should be truthful, reliable and fair?

(Slightly off-topic, I know).

Unfortunately there are sites from both sides, where extreme attitudes and hatred are blatantly on display.

I sometimes observe them, but that is all.

What is pertinent is those people who know there is extreme viewpoints, but won't condemn it, and/or post on those sites.

Based on the fanatical zeal I've seen from some Amaral supporters, the repeat donations, the quasi-religious and reverent tones used to address him, it honestly wouldn't surprise me if some of these people actually would lay down their lives for their hero, sad to say.  And that's not satire.
