Strange.  &%+((£    I am happy with my stance on this case. I feel no need to attempt to strengthen my position by attacking or ridiculing others. In my opinion those who do so are attempting to bolster their own opinions by discrediting other's views.
I'm happy you're happy, but you'd have to be burying your head in the sand to fail to see the cult developing around St Goncalo of Amaral.  Be assured, I don't mean that ALL sceptics revere him, but that a noticeable, possibly increasing number do appear to think that he is some sort of saviour.

You failed to address the issue of it being a movement No comment on that then ?
I will probably have fun with the Moonies they are nearly as risible as those who hold up Sr Amaral as deity and those who think that Sr Amaral is some kind of devil incarnate.
I did address your post in which you decreed this phenomenon a "movement" rather than a cult.  You must have a short memory.  This is what I said:

Actually, I chose the word Cult specifically for its religious connotations, and the picture I posted reinforces my contention that this veneration has taken on a religious dimension for some.

But when did he go to Fatima? When did he go to the Vatican? Is the parable of the branching tunnel about him?

You don't really seem to understand the thrust of this thread.  We're not talking about what Gonc did or did not do, we're talking about the people who are now treating him as some sort of saviour, or at the very least as a knight in shining armour, with an ace up one sleeve, on a divine mission and poised to lance the McCann dragon with this rapier-sharp ace.  In short this is about the cult-like mentality of Gonc's supporters, as evidenced on his GoFundMe page and in numerous other places on the web.  Do you celebrate Goncalo Amaral Day on the 2nd of October by any chance?  Bet your bottom dollar his followers will be bequeathing yet more devotional cash to his fund on that holy day.

It is not a cult. They are probably disgusted at the way he has been treated in an unsolved case by suspects in it.

Smithman carrying a child in his arms checked his watch after passing the Smith family and the time was 10:03. Both are still unidentified 10 years later.

He has a picture  from the Sistine Chapel on his F/Book page. Surely that must be proof he went there.

Q.  Are you aware that in not answering the questions you are jeopardising the investigation, which seeks to discover what happened to your daughter?

Kate.  'Yes, if that’s what the investigation thinks.'

most people support amaral because they believe the lies he has told...

LOL.  Disgusted by the way the suspects treated him?  Bless his cottons, and damn those beastly suspects for not playing along with the nice policeman's game.

There are numerous people now paying tithes into the Amaral Fund on a regular basis.  One person describes this act as "penance".  Another says "I believe in you Goncalo", yet another photoshops a picture of Amaral with Jesus-like rays of light coming out of his head.  We have Tony Bennett enjoining us to celebrate Goncalo Amaral day.  And you tell me this behaviour is not in any way cult like?

Mr Amaral is certainly disgusted ... he went to the lengths of writing two books telling us just how much ... and who exactly had conspired against him.

We all know people like that who think the world owes them a living and everyone is to blame but them.

Repeatedly his supporters quote the mantra "only doing his job".  Were that so he would be basking in the glow of a job well done with the prosecution of the actual perpetrator of the crime against Madeleine McCann.
Instead the petty pillorying of her parents as 'payback' for interrupting his career by their refusal to confess to something they hadn't done just to suit his theory.
Not all his fault ... he was just lamentably out of his depth.

There is no doubt he has built what amounts to a cult following ... the mystery is ... based on what rationale?  Then that is the thing about cults, I suppose.

As Amaral arrived at a Lisbon court this week for the cause celebre case that has turned him into an unlikely hero, he clearly revelled in his new-found popularity.
Mobbed by cheering, flag and banner-waving supporters (mainly women of a certain age), he smiled and signed autographs before a barrage of cameras.

"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

If he was up for local election to be a Knight of King Arthur wouldn't someone  gallop over to Camelot with advisors as soon as they heard about it?. I disagree with large parts of his theory but am united with "MPS" in being appalled by the way an SIO was treated.

You did not address the question about whether those who hold Sr Amaral up to ridicule are a cult or movement. You should know being one of them and all.
As for his supporters at large thinking he is a deity his following is a cult etc. Some dick head puts up a pic of him with a halo round his head means nothing other than just that. I am surprised you want to try to turn it into something else. Or maybe not surprised as the case may be.

You're appalled by how the SIO was treated by whom?

One example: those elements much higher up in the PJ etc who removed him from the case on Oct 2nd 2007, just as he was about to act on the DCCB report and the Sept Irish statement. The feeble reason given was supposedly that he had dared to criticise, in a phonecall with a journalist, one element of the Brit presence.

No, there is no quasi-religious fervour on display from the mockers, that I am aware of anyway.  Enjoy your time with the Moonies.
