People are entitled to their own views and opinions Alfred and that is one reason why thousands read this forum every day.   As you well know, the view is still held by many that Madeleine's parents were involved in her disappearance so rightly consider press articles like that in the Mirror with derision.

The only thing which unites most people is the need to find the truth, recover Madeleine and punish the guilty.

you say many John... I disagree...just a very, very small percentage of the population

What sort of person would choose to leave a negative comment under a post like that, or select the "dislike" button?

People who don't believe the mccanns and/or those who believe the list is a deliberate ploy to engage sympathy for a couple who are responsible for this case in the first instance.

The people I have met on this topic, in person, invariably think the McCanns are up to their necks in it.  This does not mean the McCanns actually are up to their necks in it.  And it certainly doesn't mean I think the McCanns are up to their necks in it.  As is so happens, I don't think the McCanns are up to their necks in it.

I think John made a pertinent point in that there is much more to be revealed.  As to whether it will be ...

The original article tells us much about the McCann case, though I am sure most folks on here are abundantly aware of it already.

1) Take a story about multiple families with missing relatives.
2) Dump everyone else and make it a McCann story.
3) Listen to the cash register going ka-ching.

After reading this I couldn't help but note that the McCanns never once addressed themselves directly to Madeleine as all of the other families did in this initiative to their missing relatives. I didn't see her name either, it was "her". Their contribution seems as if it came from people who already knew that the  missing person was never coming back home

Thats a fair point and very noticeable in this latest report,  they very rarely did, twice iirc in all interviews/appeals, one in a xmas appeal and once when prompted to  by a journalist

Do you have some examples of other tributes from families of missing relatives who have taken part in this initative please?

True.

Since the thread title is not restricted to the UK public - irrelevant.

Since the disappearance occurred in Portugal - oh dear.

Since I have just been reading the posts about "the Algarve is cheesed off with Maddie stories", news dated May 2009 highlighting the problem with a lack of local support - oh dear.

Here's a simple thought.  A large part of the solution to what happened to Madeleine lies in the Algarve, particularly in Luz.  Getting such people on board is relevant.

What's up, old man?

Especially if you are trying to find out what happened.

from what you are saying the mccanns have little support in Portugal...I don't think its possible after all this time to change things
