Oh by the way brietta are you referring to the 'innocent couple' who needlessly and selfishly risked their children's safety, merely to socialise with their associates ?

Of course she got away with it.

(I think!) English libel laws (as they are now couched) allow her to get away with it.

But even if there was a question mark (over whether Ms Hopkins has transgressed the laws of libel, or whether she hasn't) do you really think she has produced a piece to be proud of?

Read the comments page, and look at the poll in the Evening Standard.

I would be a very strange person indeed if I thought that jumping on to a bandwagon for the express purpose of venting my spleen on an innocent couple who have suffered unimaginable trauma is the right and appropriate thing to do.

I don't take pleasure in kangaroo courts and have a very low opinion of their memberships or those who promote them.

Which is probably why I do not share your opinion of the comments made by Ms Hopkins nor the ants nest she has stirred in making them.

Just a tawdry diversion from all that is really important in Madeleine McCann's case.

what they have gone through is nothing.....compared to what maddie did.

they deserve all they get......maddie doesn't

the mccs had a choice.....maddie didn't.........at three year old ...maddie paid the price of what they did

the mccs are not a innocent couple.they caused it....maddie was a innocent child
Always listen to both sides of the story before you judge.

The first storyteller you will always find has modified the story, for there benefit BE WISE.

Probably not the primary message they are taking from the article.
Of course not, they're all too busy frothing with glee at the fact that someone said something nasty about the McCanns in a national newspaper - what a total and utter victory for the [ censored word ]s, this has got their year off to a stupendous start, bless them.

Well she doesn't seem to be expecting an arrest or a child being found anytime soon;

We are not the police. We cannot pretend to know what really went on.
What happened that night will remain a mystery and someone will take the truth to their grave

There is a nugget of sense in Katie's article and it is this:

We are not the police. We cannot pretend to know what really went on.

And yet we are all guilty of doing just that, including Katie herself.  Now, if everybody just kept their opinions to themselves regarding what they think went on and let the police get on with it, how would the world be a worse place exactly?

Why would I want to tell that to Colin Stagg exactly?

She 'rattles my cage' not one bit ... I haven't been taken in by her.  Can you give just one instance when Ms Hopkins has shown any self restraint in 'speaking out' about anyone or anything she thinks may add to her notoriety.

There is a market and an audience for those who wish to spew bile against Madeleine and the McCann family ... Ms Hopkins has merely tapped into it.

Please give examples of people "spewing bile against Madeleine".

I do recall a discussion about Madeleine on one of the "sceptic" sites in which her looks were pulled apart, something to the effect of "it's probably just as well she's dead otherwise she'd have grown up to look just like her Dad, poor kid".  I'm sure there's been other stuff too,

You really can't comprehend why people don't believe the mccanns story or are just sick to the teeth of them playing 'poor me' in the papers.

I suggest you go out into the real world and find out.

It might be enlightening.

I don't have the slightest problem with people's beliefs.  What I find incomprehensible and beneath contempt is the base manner in which some choose to express them.
Ms Hopkins is merely a reflection of a phenomenon which illustrates the misuse of the www which has the propensity to achieve so much good but some parts of which have been taken over by really vile elements.

I live in the real world among real people ... quite often I have some doubts about others but am far too polite to express them.  I was taught manners.
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

No, I'm sorry - I don't understand why I should be discussing this case with Colin Stagg, why won't you help me?

No one has abused Madeleine.

People have conveyed their opinion though on two parents who have milked the system  as a result of their incompetent parenting.
