I fear you have been misinformed Alice.  The dispute is that the new contract will result in the junior doctors working more unsocial hours for 20% less pay.  But please don't let the facts stand in the way of a good prejudice.

Perhaps we need to refer to James Naughtie's favourite politician as regards that. 8)--))

Her opinion will not have "thinking" people thinking. Who on God's earth would take any notice of her opinion.
Considering her track record of always making cruel and offensive comments about so many topics, I doubt her ill considered comments will hold much sway with any "thinking" folk.

Interesting....many people do ignore her as they should...but she's stuck her oar into "this" case and sanctioned by one of the best selling papers, and it's bound to draw extra attention and thought by  ALL types

OFF TOPIC
Is that right? Point me in the right direction because I have never been able to get to the root.
Do you have a copy of the new contract they would have, the associated pay rates and when premium rates kick in ?
Why should they be exempt from the sort of things that have been happening in the private sector for 20 years or so?
I am prejudiced against anything that smacks of a Spanish Practice.

And did a poll to boot

I think DM owns part of the Standard....so probably has some clout

DM, the essential WUM newspaper, funny

Does it?

The Indie has just gone under in paper format (with presumably lay-offs). AFAIK, Lebedev is the owner of both the Indie and the ES. No idea about partial ownership.

By premium rates I suppose you mean overtime... I believe it is 10 pm...up until 10 normal rates apply....i remember my son working a 12 hour hospital shift and then being asked...and having to agree ...to work the next 12 hours because the next doctor had phoned in sick

NHS is a 24/7 service. wow who'd a thunk it- doctors wanting 9-5.  The high quality EXPENSIVE training they receive 'in house' requires they work unsociable hours.( this is due to the fact that people take ill any time of the day-inconsiderate bast...ds). 8)><(
As trainees, they sacrifice like other trainees in industry, to gain the experience to move up the ladder and the pickings are rich! Some consultants get well in excess of 100k with private work and NHS. Crying in the money pond... make it over flow.

back on topic..

Well stating the obvious- everyone here discussing it has an opinion of her opinion- including you!
...by stating you know who the 'thinking' people are and what they are thinking is funny. 8**8:/:

Yes, everyone thinks, but some think that others don't think right..or think about the "right" things....some of the time they are right some of the time they're wrong....it's those who profess and declare and dictate what is so that hacks some off, and rightly so.....

at work and on call is not the same as working constant 12 hours without a break as is the impression given. I was on call a lot of hours but actual input during the night was not frantic.  I got to nap.

this is not on call it was working...when he arrives at hospital there are 8 to 10 patients from casualty waiting to be admitted to a ward..it takes the whole 12 hour shift to assess and admit these patients...at the end of the 12 hour shift there are another 10 waiting to be admitted...that's the reality...no sleeping...

Sort of but lets not get hung up on whether there is a premium rate for working extended hours.
If your son had to work 24 hrs in one hit with minimal to no rests that shows an element of irresponsibility on the part of his employer.
