I think everyone should read that from page 50. All the deletions discovered on his phone and his cover stories for blood etc. Many believe they can outsmart the police.
"I consider detective's instinct or 'gut-feeling', to be an underplayed attribute in an era of risk aversion and performance management; it should be encouraged in detectives as part of their skllls base."
That's a very Dixon of Dock Green approach on a good day and a very Gene Hunt approach on a bad one. Don't you think evidence and following and collating it has a place in modern day policing?
Let's face it ... the primary investigation went very much with the detective's "gut feeling" ... I prefer the way it is being done presently with a systematic approach to evidence gathering which has led to the statement that Madeleine may still be found alive.
If that statement had not been evidence based but the senior officer had said it was a "gut feeling" ... what would you be saying to that now?
Reading between the lines Scotland Yard have a definite line of inquiry. I think they are determined that as long as there are investigative opportunities still open in Madeleine McCann's case they intend to follow them to conclusion ... that takes money ... and it has just been made very difficult for any home secretary to cut the funding for that live investigation.
