I think you're making it far too complicated Brietta.
All the previous illicit window openings in blocks 5 and 4 were by petty burglars.
They were stealing things like foreign currency, a video camera, mobile phones, and a TV.
The only reason they didn't steal anything at 5A is that they were unexpectedly interrupted.

It is by far the least complicated explanation and the simplest unless someone can come up with a better suggestion as to how Madeleine vanished as if in a puff of smoke.

They apparently had expertise in entering properties the only trace being the missing 'petty' goods thieved.  Perhaps they were sub-contracted.  Every petty thief probably dreams of the big job ... and this may have been theirs.

There is more chance of an apartment in a family resort being occupied after 9pm than unoccupied - & rather difficult to determine with all those closed shutters.
How many other apartments were targeted that night or on subsequent nights? Drug-addicted petty burglars have needs.

Petty thieves sub contracted? To steal a 3 yr old? To order I expect (and for what reason?)  and get away with it for so long? You cannot be serious!

Both shutters of lounge door were up.Kitchen shutter was up.
Other shutters were down but with some slats that let light through open.
It was easy for someone in street to see the dim light level inside

That's just the issue, though. 5a was illuminated. What about all the other apartments in the various blocks with shutters closed & no sign of illumination? Why would a burglar target the one with a light on?

Am I right in thinking there is actually no evidence for an attempted burglary on 5a night of 3 May 07? that led to a chld abduction, as in fingerprints, dna, witnesses...all of which seem quite flakey circumstantially even ?...ie its just a theory among many?

Oh, so he/she/they knocked on the door. How do you know?

Because I researched it GUnit - it is very common for burglars to knock/ring at the door first.

Some people just dont answer it, they peek through the curtains, or not, think I dont know them, or dont want to onow who it is as Im not expecting anyone, its late, think I will ignore..so any burglar assuming no one is in is taking a risk of being seen/identified/accosted

Ask the same questions about the burglaries we know took place ... were there witnesses, apart from Mrs Fenn?  Were there any forensic traces?  Were any of the burglars apprehended and taken into custody?
Yet we know that there were burglars operating in Praia da Luz.

Knowing burglaries happened elsewhere even without forensics or witnesses is no evidence one happened in 5a, so it remains a theory at best, how can it be anything else, notwithstanding  how a petty burglary turned into the chld abduction of the century
