Now the sun is actually mentioning the unnamed Met Officers who donated to Amaral's fund.

Hmm surprise, surprise. It's everyone else's fault but theirs...It seems to be spread across the page, as a fact, that Sr Amaral accused the parents of killing their daughter. I don't recall Sr Amaral saying that, did I miss that bit? If so I am very shocked by that claim.

Managed to open the window & shutter, but I don't recall him actually squirming his way in or out again.

No one seems to have asked where the cleaner had lunch. Keys left in a jacket on a hook in a café over lunch would be easy. In any case, everybody and their brother apparently knew the access code to the key box, so keys could have been nicked any time.

I don't know whether the McCanns left the key under a mat, but I would have thought it would have been mentioned somewhere if they had. We don't know whether previous occupants did or not.

You think searching someone's pockets in a cafe for the precise key you need would be easy? I suggest you try it yourself as an empirical test. Good luck! Supposing you managed that, you'd be in a mess on your return to replace them if she'd gone back to work.

Do you have a cite for everyone and their brother knowing this code? Where was this particular key box? Could passing strangers get to it or are you suggesting that OC employees nicked keys? Why did no-one mention it if the keys to G5A had gone missing recently?

Keys did go missing.  You would know this if you had read The Files.

G you surprise me I thought you were smarter. Have you not tried that ole trick: a fishing line with a magnet huh tsk!

So, lets just run this again. The cleaner, the thief and the child stealer: do we have three people? two people? were they all in on it?
When did they plan this? day before? two days before? the day the families arrived telling the receptionist they would be leaving their children alone every night?

I'm losing the plot completely here. Shining has a theory that a pre-planned abduction may have taken place. She suggested three components to her theory.

1. Weak security as in keys, hence the discussion about who would be able to have a set cut.
2. The MW booking system offering details about children's ages which weren't shown on other booking systems. Hence the discussion about who could see the details and whether the system was actually significantly different.
3. Control over allocation of apartments. I haven't as yet been able to discover the advantage of having this control.

I think perhaps a new thread to discuss Shining's theory may be needed, as it's not a botched burglary.

And some. As I observed earlier in the thread: enough to start a war.
Just another normal day in the life of a sleepy Portuguese coastal resort.

Were these specifically the keys to 5A , or just keys in general ?

It's in The Files.  Big, big thingy.  He mislaid his keys and they all covered it up so he wouldn't lose his job.

Throughout my working life I have met many excellent cleaners.  They are a cross section of society.

Some are graduates ~ some are barely literate.

Some are good at their job ~ some are not.

Some are very likeable and great fun ~ some are not.

Some are thieves who have been caught out ~ the vast majority are honest and trustworthy.

It is risible to suggest that as a whole the cleaners or any one else working in the holiday apartments are either saint or sinner.  They are simply human beings and there may be among their number those who are criminals or those who are associated with criminals.

If every breath taken by a group of doctors on holiday and their children is to be subject to excoriating scrutiny ... the possible chance that there was inappropriate access to keys and highlighting those who may have had legitimate access is not a perverse thing to mention.

But perish the thought that anything which might actually shed light on the perpetrators of an horrendous crime is mentioned, just as for years the notion that burglaries actually did take place with impunity was dismissed.

The only way denial of or playing down petty crime will end is in an escalation ... and sooner or later that will happen if home invaders are allowed to operate in an area ... no old lady was pushed over and injured by an escaping burglar in Luz, as far as we know ... but a child is missing from a place where burglars and a man entering properties to assault little girls were operating.
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

Lots of keys.
