Proof? Afraid not. Try this; an adult picked the child up from the bed and carried her elsewhere, leaving the bedroom door open.

Ok it's not proof but it's the simplest solution. And G-Unit there is no evidence any intruder entered the apartment.
There were 3 children alone in the apartment, 2 of them were immobile in cots, so I looked it up in by my "Occam's guide to open doors" and it says the child not in a cot must have opened the door.
However it seems this elegant solution is rather too complicated for everyone except me (and possibly Mr A).

Interesting read, however there is one fatal flaw in your reasoning.  If Madeleine disturbed the burglar and he had to take her for fear of being id'ed then why was the 'abductor' seen with a sleeping child in his arms?  Your theory only works if we discount the possiblility of Tannerman and Smithman being the abductor.

Hardly a few minutes before 10pm Heri, it might be the language barrier but 9.15pm is a long way from 10pm.

In any event I go with Alfie on the matter of the child being silent and the fact that burglars don't abduct children, they usually scamper.

Precisely Misty. If Heri's walk towards window theory were correct, the bedroom door would have still been only barely ajar (or more likely completely slammed closed by the wind) when KM arrived.

In fact, the bedroom door was wide open when KM arrived.

it wasn't just the McCann's who thought it was safe,  I read a cleaner said many holiday makers left their doors open during the day.

i bet though three little children were not ....... left alone inside....

what i also find odd about your post ......you find acceptable people left doors open

yet what about the so called spate of burglaries ...the staff/cleaner's would have been aware of ...

and you would have thought ...alerted them about this...

not make out it's a natural thing to do .....
