The problem in Portugal is that the press just c&p everything from the British papers
Now we see Carlos Anjos basing his opinion on an article from the Sun, which is not the best choice to use

Hasn't the same article been given some credence by people who post here too? Carlos Anjos is not alone in taking it seriously, it seems.

If SY attempt to pin this on a bunchof petty burglars who panicked because child woke up and abducted said child ,they better provde the evidence otherwise they are on a hiding to nowhere.

"of these three I can almost guess who they are going to try pin the blame on for the abduction - on the one that died. Of the three men there's one that has already died"

Is Anjos talking about the man who died in a tractor accident in 2009 , or is he stating that one of OG's supposed gang of 3 burglars who were interviewed in 2014 has since died?

it seems the portuguese are preparing for the worst and so are the sceptics. SY will confirm that in their opinion amaral and his supporters were totally wrong.

What is abundantly clear, is that SY with the one direction remit, and without any evidence to support abduction will close it down shortly.

It has already been made clear that police officers have donated to Amaral from both SY and other forces, and it is abundantly clear why they have done so.

There will be an inevitable statement that they will await further information, but what clearly some people don't get or comprehend, is the increasing numbers of people who don't believe the mccanns story, and never will.

For the attention of posters who haven't got the message yet.

Evidence of police including SY contributing to Amaral's fund has been posted on this forum, including material from John.

If those people have problems with that, then please take it up with him.

Hasn't the same article been given some credence by people who post here too? Carlos Anjos is not alone in taking it seriously, it seems.

Carlos Anjos [CA], President of the Committee for the Protection of Crime Victims/ former president of the Criminal Investigation Officers' Union of the PJ (ASFIC/PJ)  appears to be little more than a buffoon who is misinforming Portuguese people via the media.

Speaking of the efits released by SY he appears to confuse Jane Tanner with the author of them, which we know to be absolute nonsense.
Giving rise to the suspicion that he does too.

Carlos Anjos: Release of e-fits "is very unprofessional"

**snip

... ... Regarding the e-fit, the only person that saw something gave a description to the Judiciary Police and provided a facial picture of a suspect that doesn't exist, that is, it was a featureless face. The witness was too far away...

AV - It's the picture of a man seen carrying a child?

CA - Precisely, the person gives a description, 30 meters away, at night, and just gives a physical account given that she could not see the facial features. That picture which appears now, is based on that slightly oval shaped face, from that statement that was given initially to the Judiciary Police, composed with further descriptions given by other people, thus we have a face that... a picture of a face that is a composite... - it should be said that these are portraits of the same man, one is of the man 6 years ago that was then aged with a software program, the other is a portrait that was done based on the accounts given by several people. This is very problematic.

To describe the work of another professional body as a "circus" in the same interview is in my opinion a very unprofessional thing to do.  Particularly in a case which involves a missing child.

The impression I get loud and clear from some of the 'old guard' in Portugal is a huge ill will towards anything that is likely to uncover what may have happened to Madeleine McCann nine years ago.
I find that extraordinary.
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

The impression, I  get, is that the  SY investigation was set up by whoever ordered it with one point in mind, to protect the mccanns.

It is also now known that police officers including some from SY contributed to Amaral's fund. It is hardly difficult to work out why.

...and Brietta, if you has taken notice, the investigation is grinding to it's inevitable halt.

I read this so much in regards to this case. Why would a whitewash ever be needed? This case could have disappeared years ago and barely anyone would ever think about it...sad but true. Look at other missing kids. How often do we hear people talking about Ben Needham and such...unless its related to the Madeleine case?

Claims that SY are in the process of conducting a whitewash are quite common - although no-one has come up with a credible reason why such an extreme measure would be ordered/undertaken for a couple of ordinary folk from Leicester - who were just getting on with life until tragedy struck.   A whitewash makes no sense whatsoever IMO.

The notion that innocence prevails over guilt – when there is no evidence to the contrary – is what separates civilization from barbarism.    Unfortunately, there are remains of barbarism among us.    Until very recently, it headed the PJ in Portimão. I hope he was the last one.

Is there a country in the world where law enforcement don't use efits or publicity to apprehend miscreants?  Carlos Anjos seems to be stuck in some sort of time warp where normal policing methods are to be derided.

News anchor Andreia Vale [AV]:

In the studio with us is Carlos Anjos, CMTV commentator.

Hello Carlos, good afternoon.
Thank you for being here.
This e-fit of an individual, this new "breath" of the [English police] investigation, does it have any credibility in your opinion?

Carlos Anjos [CA], President of the Committee for the Protection of Crime Victims/ former president of the Criminal Investigation Officers' Union of the PJ (ASFIC/PJ)
- Good afternoon. Unfortunately, no. Unfortunately, no.

It seems to me, from the way that this is being carried out, from the standpoint of the criminal investigation to be very unprofessional.

We do have in fact two schools of thought.

We have the school of thought of criminal investigation in Continental Europe that has a particular way of working, where the media is only used to divulge any information when it reaches a dead end and is unable to go further; and the Anglo-Saxon school that uses the media in every way possible...

AV - Often from the outset.

CA - From the outset, precisely, playing on emotions.

For a man who holds such a derisory opinion on the use of media ... he doesn't appear to see the irony in making a very good living from it as a CMTV commentator. (Correio da Manhã TV (CMTV) is a private Portuguese 24-hour news channel operated by Cofina, owner of Correio da Manhã, a notable Portuguese newspaper (tabloid). it is available in basic fiber and satellite. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CMTV)

In my opinion the McCanns wanted a review partly because they hoped it would officially exonerate them. Cameron wanted to help them find their daughter, so he believed in the abduction. May was probably more cynical but she was leaned on allegedly; certainly the McCanns had criticised her response previously. Stephenson was offered funding, a high profile case which could cover SY in glory and find a lost child.

The remit cast doubt upon Operation Grange's intentions. If they were only investigating an abduction they were not progressing the archived PJ investigation, they were following just one of the possibilities, the one suggested and promoted by the parents.

I don't think Operation Grange was set up and funded in order to exonerate the parents. As far as the people who set it up were concerned there was no need to exonerate the parents, they believed there had been an abduction and they hoped SY could find out what happened and hopefully even find the child.

Whatever happened to Madeleine McCann it's disgraceful if a hugely expensive investigation was launched with a restricted remit. The McCanns may indeed be innocent of involvement in the disappearance of Madeleine, but would UK police have accepted their innocence at face value had it all happened in the UK? I think not.

That is your view of a view from England ... the thread title refers to a view from Portugal on the SY investigation.
