Attempted abduction of a British child on Costa de Almeria, Spain.

The last story we had along these lines was last year somewhere in the Algarve. An Irish couple went home and claimed that they had been given the Maddie treatment because police had seen they had Calpol.  The Irish couple alleged the police had stated they had thrown their son from an 8th floor balcony into the swimming pool, and had stolen around 750 Euros from the man's wallet.

Portuguese TV got the hotel owner on TV.  He said the couple had been arguing in their 1st floor room, with the argument fuelled by alcohol.  The man then left the room with the child.  The woman got on to the phone to reception screaming abduction and insisting the police were called, which is why they turned up.

In the interim, the man went to a hotel bar and continued to drink.  Then he went back to the room, and the couple resumed their argument, putting the child out on their first floor balcony as they did so.

The police arrived.  On entry, they thought the child was in danger and had a look around, finding calpol, which is illegal.  They took the child to hospital.  The mother went along.  The father went back to the bar and drinking.  The hospital examination included taking blood for a blood screen, and the mother went bananas over that.

So, take your pick.  A trusty couple pounced upon by corrupt foreign police.  Or a drunk, arguing couple and police ensuring the safety of a young child.

I never did check how the paper got it's hands on the Irish couple's story.

calpol is illegal in portugal..are you sure...that does not sound possible

but you live there so you must know much more than me...

Yep.   Roquetas de Mar, is on the Costa del Almera.  Written in the English speaking newspaper there.

DURING a holiday in Spain with his wife and four-year-old son, Urmston, Greater Manchester resident Shaun Kennedy was horrified to find himself having to battle a stranger who was trying to abduct his son Chase from a lift in the hotel in which they were staying.

It appears that the burly stranger got into a lift that the two were in and started to strike up a conversation with the young boy. Then as the lift doors were about to close, he grabbed hold of the toddler and pulled him out of the lift with Shaun following.

They grappled on the floor and then Shaun who in the process received some injuries was able to grab hold of his son and ran off with him whilst the assailant made his escape.

The police were called but although they made some attempt at trying to find the distinctive abductor, they were unsuccessful and left without even inviting Shaun to the police station to make a formal complaint.

Happily Chase was unhurt except for some carpet burns on his leg although he has had some problems with sleeping.

Just because it hasn't been mentioned in the press, doesn't mean necessarily that Mr Kennedy wasn't able to pass on a better description of who he saw and wrestled with to the police.
