If I recall properly some female witness outside a bank overheard a man she later identified as being GM pleading with someone on his mobile phone not to hurt the girl?

That was Caroline Kish. Her evidence was discounted for various reasons; she was late coming forward, Gerry McCann's phone was in Luz, Kate said he was in Luz;

One witness reported having seen Gerry in Lagos on 7 May, on his mobile phone, saying to somebody, ‘Don’t hurt Madeleine.’ At the time we were both in Praia da Luz surrounded by media, police and embassy officials – as, of course, Gerry’s phone records showed. [Madeleine]

Although Ms Kish's evidence is dated 21st November, her sighting was first reported to the PJ on 8th September.
The sighting took place at 2.26pm on 7th May. At 2pm Kate read out an appeal to Sky News with Gerry beside her. What they did after that we don't know.

We do know that Gerry had a mobile phone which the investigators had no knowledge of, so his known phone records don't count as evidence. An interesting point is Kate's appeal, which is addressed to the person 'who is with Madeleine' and says 'Please, please don't hurt her'.

It's stretching credibility somewhat to suggest that within 20 minutes of appearing in front of the world's media Gerry had managed to give them the slip and hot-footed it to Lagos  in order to make a phone call in broad daylight, in front of witnesses, and then deny it had ever happened.   But I suppose it gives you something to talk about, in the absence of any news.

Lagos is a mere 4 miles from Praia da Luz, it only takes a few minutes to get there by car.  Carolyn Kish was so adamant that the man she saw and overheard speaking on his phone about Madeleine was Gerry that she said she was 99.9% sure.  DNA wouldn't better that!

That is something which challenges the bounds of coincidences.  Now what were the chances that all these elements just happened to come together just minutes away from PdL where earlier that same day Kate had made her "Madeleine is a beautiful, bright, funny and caring little girl. She is so special. Please, please, do not hurt her" appeal in private later broadcast by the worlds media?

7 May 2007.  McCann's requested an interview with one journalist before footage was later transmitted.

A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
Indeed, the truth never changes with the passage of time.

Can you spot the discrepancy between the email from Roman S. & the CV belonging to CK?

Gerry McCann's main phone 'pinged' in PdL at 14.16, the next 'ping' is 17.21.

Ms Kish's bank is on the Avenida dos Descobrimentos in Lagos, 12 minutes by car from Luz. She saw the man at 14.26. It was cutting it a bit fine, but there was possibly a car available. Sandy and Trish Cameron were lent a car to use 'by friends' when they arrived on 5th.

Of course Gerry's main phone didn't have to be with him that day, and although the appeal by Kate is timed as 2pm it could have been done earlier, that may have been the transmission time. I can't find anything to say what they did after the appeal, but Kate's friends looked after the twins that afternoon.

There has been considerable scrutiny of that one minute interview but plainly it was recorded by Sky before being edited and transmitted.

Mss Kish stated that the man she saw was wearing a grey coat.

Gerry and Kate McCann plead for the return of Madeleine before the media on 4 May 2007.

It seems fairly obvious to me that the man was a journalist phoning in copy, following the televised appeal at 2pm.

No. The clue is in the  dates on her CV.

Plausible but doesn't explain the body language or her near positive identification?

"I think he had a notebook in his left hand and I think he was holding the phone in his right hand. The notebook seemed to be the type that journalists use. He seemed very upset and the way he was acting and with the notebook I assumed he was an actor or journalist".

She thought he was a journalist first off.  So that's a clear point in support of him being a journo.  He "seemed" upset - perhaps he was?  Journos get upset too, maybe it was anger or struggling to be heard by the person on the other end?  who knows.  As for the positive identification, well - there have been people who swear blind that they have seen Madeleine McCann since she disappeared, do we believe them or are they likely mistaken?
