I think each case has to be judged individually and funding allocated as appropriate.  I don't think that there should be a set amount per missing person, particularly as not all missing people go missing as a result of criminal activity involving abduction, kidnap, abuse and murder. Cases where there is a strong likelihood of foul play being involved should take precedence and more resources devoted to them, particularly where young children are involved or where there is a strong suspicion that the perpetrator may go on to commit other similar crimes.

Lack of opportunity is a great prevention, leaving your children alone at night is not a risk worth taking.

Perhaps the McCanns can  have a poster of them looking sad, telling all those  who live in a 'culture' claimed by the McCanns; that to leave your children alone at night asleep while you go out to enjouy yourselves is a bad idea.
Nope didn't think so. they did nothing wrong according to them and their PR and fan club.

No, it would have been something positive out of the case.

So you don't think the McCanns publicising the dangers of leaving your children alone would have been useful?

They did, repeatedly and often.  Kate even wrotea bestselling book about what happened to her kid when she left her alone - maybe you didn't hear about it?

Perhaps someone should commission a series of posters of parents of missing or dead children, showing them looking sad with warnings underneath eg:  Ben Needhams grandparents and April Jones' mum "Don't let your child play outside unsupervised", or Jamie Bulger's mum "Don't let go of your child's hand when out shopping" - how would that be?  Then we can slot the McCanns into that ad campaign.  Because of course parents need telling don't they?  I mean, just look at all the people who, having seen what happened to Madeleine now leave their kids unattended in holiday resorts.  It's virtually an epidemic isn't it?

Sounds a good idea. Missing People could organise it.

Why not?  Why do you think people need posters of the McCanns telling them not to do something?  Do you really think parents need advice from the McCanns in the form of posters?  Say you do and give me a good laugh!

I have a better idea, one that will I'm sure be popular with the subset of McCanns sceptics that act like the baying mob, with their frothing at the mouth, fangs beared:  make the McCanns wear sandwich boards with "We are bad parents, don't do what we did or your kid will disappear" written on them, and then make them spend all day every day walking up and down Oxford Street, for the next 20 years.  And then when 20 years is up, make them do it for another 20.

Sandwich boards bit tacky even for the cheapo holiday seeking McCanns .OXFORD street, hell No! anywhere in Liverpool though.   However an acknowledgement of their 'mistake' to those who share their 'culture' of leaving their children alone would be a benefit I am sure. They are revered by people who behave just like them and they are ambassadors for 'missing' children after all.

SO you would like the McCanns to create a PR package (poster, flyer, whatever) addressed to their "fanclub" urging them to stop leaving their kids unattended to "go on the piss" because unless the McCanns point out that it is foolish to do so, their fanclub (which is renowned for leaving children unattended whilst on holiday) will continue to do it because they wish to emulate their heroes, even if it means losing a child, is that the long and the short of it?
