I think the site may be aware of that, John.

The contentious petition, on Care2Petitions, has a disclaimer added to it saying: ‘NOTE: CARE2 DOES NOT ENDORSE THE CONTENT OF THIS PETITION’.

As does the organiser of the petition in the first place.

The McCanns are damned if they do and damned if they don't in this situation and whoever set it up knows it.

A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
Indeed, the truth never changes with the passage of time.

Adrian Prout failed it because he was extremely nervous and not because he was guilty.  It just so happened that he was both guilty and extremely nervous but he could also have been innocent and extremely anxious, the machine cannot distinguish between these emotions.

The Polygraph is a gimmick which belongs on daytime TV, it has no place within the criminal justice system.  Someone should tell the eejit who set up the Petition.

They start with easy questions first because they know people will be nervous. Saying that I don't believe it should be used as proof of guilt.
Smithman carrying a child in his arms checked his watch after passing the Smith family and the time was 10:03. Both are still unidentified 10 years later.

What is the point of this, can someone tell me?

The Lie Detector Test, and this pathetic Web Site.  No chance of Parliament debating this.  And no chance of it happening.

A very good point John. I wonder if those publicising it in the media realise that?

The 'news' in March 2017 seems to the media using various non-entities to concoct material hostile to the McCanns but safe from libel.

IMO, the media know exactly what tack they are taking.
What's up, old man?

What tack is that and why are they taking it, in your opinion?

Column inches (and on-line advertising).  There is a cash cow present and it can be milked ad infinitum.  IMO, of course.

I'd like one of those cows.

The other thing which many people don't realise is that the polygraph does not provide a definitive guilty or innocent.  It provides a graphical readout of the physiological reactions in the subjects body.  This graph has to be interpreted by the polygraph operator and there are plenty out there who are nothing more than polygraph cowboys out to milk the unsuspecting mugs who can pay £700 a time for their 'expertise'.

As an aside, Luke Mitchell, another convicted killer whom we feature on this forum, took a polygraph test as did his mother and both passed with flying colours.  The polygraph tester was Terry Mulllins, secretary of the British Polygraph Association.

If polygraphs are genuine then Mitchell is innocent and has been incarcerated for over 13 years for a crime he did not commit.

A very big IF indeed!!

Very little doubt that his conviction is unsafe.

This petition was once rejected on the Government website
Petition Polygraph Test to be taken by Kate McCann and Gerry McCann
"The Campaign For McCanns To Undergo a 'Lie Detector Test is filing this petition On 29th day of October in 2013.
We the general public ask for an enforcement of 'A Lie Detector Test', also known as a 'Polygraph Test' also known as a 'Psychophysiology Detection of Deception or Credibility Assessment', We would duly implore a full enquiry and full questioning of Kate McCann and Gerry McCann in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann .
The presumption of innocence, which is an integral part of the Basic Law's principle would suppress numerous suspicions of Kate McCann and Gerry McCann in further assumption that Kate McCann and Gerry McCann are or have been guilty of any criminal activity in the disappearance of Madeline McCann
Truth and Honesty is sought
No man is above the Law-
'Nemo supra legem est' - ''
This petition has been archived
It was submitted during the 2010–2015 Conservative – Liberal Democrat coalition government

I caught this story at the time and have been shaking my head ever since. Reading through the comments on here already I have little to add as anything I was going to say has already been said.

It's done just to keep needling Mr and Mrs McCann no doubt and I would seriously question that amount of signatures
